Villarreal leave it late to snatch point and move back into top four

Left-back Jaume Costa scored a late equaliser to earn Villarreal a 1-1 draw against Eibar at El Madrigal, where both teams finished with 10 men.It looked set to be an afternoon of frustration for Marcelino's men after Sergio Enrich volleyed the visitors ahead midway through the first half.Villarreal goalkeeper Alphonse Areola prevented the hosts from going into the break 2-0 down when he saved Dani Garcia's penalty. After Villarreal substitute Daniele Bonera was forced off with injury, having already made all three substitutions, Eibar winger Keko evened up the numbers by picking up two quick yellow cards. The Yellow Submarine's pressure finally told when, with just five minutes left, defender Costa got behind on the overlap to stab the ball in off the far post.It was a bright start by the home side, with Roberto Soldado setting up Cedric Bakambu in front of goal, but Eibar goalkeeper Asier Riesgo did enough to force the striker's effort over the crossbar. There was a warning for Villarreal when Borja Baston capitalised on a mistake to create space for a shot which Areola had to be alert to block.Riesgo was called into action again at the other end after 24 minutes to push away Samu Castillejo's goal-bound strike from the edge of the area.It proved crucial as Eibar broke away to take the lead after 27 minutes.A cross in from the left was not dealt with, allowing Baston to flick the ball up over the centre-backs into the area, where Enrich volleyed it down into the bottom corner.Eibar almost doubled their lead when a fierce drive from Keko flew over the bar.The visitors were forced into a change after 32 minutes when Eric Bailly was taken off on a stretcher and replaced by Daniele Bonera. After Soldado's close-range effort was saved, Eibar were awarded a penalty when Costa wrestled Baston to the ground. However, Garcia's effort was saved as Areola got down to his left and made a smart save.Lifted by the let-off, Villarreal went in search of an equaliser before half-time.Bakambu saw his angled header cleared off the line by Aleksandar Pantic before Soldado felt he should have been given a penalty in stoppage-time when bundled over by the Serbian defender as he cut in from the right, but the referee was not interested.Villarreal continued to press following the restart, with Denis Suarez off target after latching on to a cross into the area before midfielder Castillejo went on a fine solo run, but defender David Junca made a saving tackle. The hosts were forced to play with 10 men for the closing stages when, after 73 minutes, substitute Bonera was forced off with injury. Coach Marcelino, who earlier this week signed a three-year contract extension, had already used all of his three replacements. The numbers were, though, soon evened up when Keko collected a second yellow card in quick succession for handball. And eventually Villarreal - 3-0 losers at Barcelona prior to the international break - did find a way back into the match.Suarez played a neat one-two outside the left of the penalty area to release Costa, who stabbed the ball against the inside of the far post and back over the line to earn the hosts a point, which moved them back into the top four.
