Aymeric Laporte to turn down Man City - Athletic Bilbao's San Jose

Aymeric Laporte will turn down a move to Manchester City this summer, according to his Athletic Bilbao teammate Mikel San Jose.

Laporte, 21, has been linked with a move to the Etihad in the summer with incoming boss Pep Guardiola reported to be keen on him.

However, Athletic midfielder San Jose has said defender Laporte is happy at the Spanish club and expects him to stay.

"I am confident that he will continue with us... but I guess in football you never know what can happen," the former Liverpool player told Onda Vasca.

"A league like the Premier League is always making very high transfers and you never know, but I think [Aymeric] is very focused and very happy here.

"If I have to say something, I trust he will continue with us. He knows he's at a great club, in a great locker room and a great city to grow. In that sense, I'm calm."

Laporte is currently recovering from a broken leg he suffered playing for France under-21s in March.

The centre-back signed a new deal at Athletic last summer that keeps him at the club until 2019. Reports in Spain earlier this month claimed City had activated his £39 million release clause.

However, Laporte denied those reports on Twitter, saying: "Athletic will always be the first to know about anything that might happen in the future. My loyalty and deep respect for this club is full."
