Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger quiet on Alexandre Lacazette links

Arsene Wenger has refused to discuss his possible interest in signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, saying he does not want to fuel speculation about Arsenal's transfer dealings.

Lacazette, 25, has been touted as a potential Arsenal target after the club failed to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester, with Wenger looking to strengthen his attacking options ahead of next season.

Asked about the French forward on Canal Plus, Wenger said: "I neither confirm, or do not confirm anything at all, because the transfer market is open until Aug. 31. Even in our job we have the right to change our opinion if we have one.

"Personally I like a lot of players but if I say that to you it opens up speculation."

Lacazette had a breakthrough season in 2014-15 when he scored 27 goals in 33 league games. He followed that up with 21 league goals last season but was still left out of the France squad for the Euros.

On same programme, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said Wenger had not spoken to him about Lacazette and that they were counting on him for next season.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Alvaro Morata, with Real Madrid, who have exercised a buy-back option to re-sign the forward from Juventus, potentially selling him on for a profit.

Wenger, who has also heaped praise on Leicester and France midfielder N'Golo Kante in his Euro 2016 punditry role, hinted that he is pursuing several possibilities.

"A club also often has four or five priorities and it's the most doable that decides things at the last moment," the Arsenal boss said.
