MEXICO CITY -- In a weekend where a pair of Argentine goalkeepers, Agustin Marchesin and Nahuel Guzman, gave top performances on Saturday's clash between Tigres and America, it was Necaxa's own Argentine goalkeeper, Marcelo Barovero, who was named top goalkeeper for Week 6. With a week ahead full of midweek and weekend games ahead, it will be fascinating to see if Pumas continue what has been an impressive start to the Clausura.
Here are the Power Rankings for Week 6:
1. PUMAS UNAM (+2)
Pumas traveled to Morelia on Friday and continued on the same successful road they've been on since the start of the Clausura. Thanks to Matias Alustiza's third goal of the season and Carlos Guzman's own goal, Pumas got a 2-1 victory.
2. CLUB AMERICA (-1)
Mateus Uribe missed a penalty in America's 1-1 draw against Tigres. Guido Rodriguez and Emanuel Aguilera exceeded expectations in a match where Andre-Pierre Gignac and Jeremy Menez stole the headlines. It was fitting that Gignac and Menez scored the game's only goals.
3. MONTERREY (-1)
To play almost an entire match down a player and for that player to be Aviles Hurtado proved to be complicated for Monterrey. Even though it withstood 66 minutes without conceding a goal, Monterrey still lost 2-1 to Toluca.
4. TIGRES UANL (no change)
Timothee Kolodziejczak got his first Clausura start, and it came in a fierce game against America. It was a game where mistakes weren't allowed and "Kolo" succeeded in Tigres' three-man defense. According to SofaScore, he finished the night with five clearances and won five of his nine duels.
5. SANTOS LAGUNA (+1)
At the start of this season, Santos' displays might not be generating the same type of noise as those being turned out by Pumas. Both clubs are putting in great performances to start the new season, but the Mexico City side is grabbing more attention. Nevertheless, Santos' great form can't go unnoticed, especially since Djaniny Tavares has already scored seven goals in six matches.
6. CLUB TIJUANA (-1)
Xolos are no longer the only Liga MX team that has yet to concede a goal. Gibran Lajud spent the first 516 minutes of this Clausura without conceding a single goal but Edson Puch scored twice and helped Queretaro get a vital 2-0 away win in Tijuana.
7. MORELIA (no change)
Roberto Hernandez saw it coming. Morelia was lucky to walk away from Pachuca with a 3-2 win last weekend. But this weekend when it hosted Pumas, it couldn't keep that lucky streak alive. Against Pumas, it only had one shot on target.
8. TOLUCA (+4)
It's true that Toluca played almost the entire match with an extra man, but it was important for it to win a home game. Getting a 2-1 victory over Monterrey was something manager Hernan Cristante needed to prove that his tenure is working out.
9. LEON (no chance)
Landon Donovan's 2018 Clausura debut was like the cherry on the cake as Leon achieved its third win of the season. However, the result should be taken lightly because Puebla had six shots on target and kept La Fiera's defense busy. Against Santos in Torreon, Leon will have a great test to prove that it has what it takes to go far this season.
10. PUEBLA (-2)
Once again Puebla lost a match away from Estadio Cuauhtemoc, this time to Leon. The 2-1 loss is the club's third away defeat of the season. Away from Puebla, Enrique Meza's team has conceded five goals, but when playing at home, it has only allowed one.
11. NECAXA (+2)
Ignacio Ambriz is building something interesting over at Aguascalientes with Necaxa. It's a team that, all of a sudden, has an interesting attacking spark, developed mainly by players like Dieter Villalpando, Victor Davila and Matias Fernandez. Its 2-0 win over Cruz Azul was convincing.
12. PACHUCA (-1)
Against Veracruz, Pachuca was fortunate to not have conceded a goal but in the end, it left el puerto jarocho with an important 1-0 win. Next up for Los Tuzos will be a tough match against Xolos.
13. CRUZ AZUL (-3)
Cruz Azul is nowhere near the level it showed last season with Paco Jemez in charge. With Pedro Caixinha, it has been tough to keep things steady this season, mainly because players aren't in great shape but also thanks to a series of injuries that has prevented Caixinha to have a full squad. It's looking like Cruz Azul will not reach the Liguilla this season.
14. QUERETARO (+2)
Queretaro's only wins this Clausura have been two 2-0 away wins. What was positive about Friday night's win over Tijuana is that Edson Puch scored twice. Puch is supposed to be one of Queretaro's strongest attacking options.
15. VERACRUZ (no change)
Veracruz hasn't won any of its home games this season, which ultimately hurts its chances of avoiding relegation. Lobos just got their first home win of the season and Veracruz must follow if it aspires to remain in Mexico's top flight.
16. CHIVAS (-2)
It's strange to see that Eduardo Lopez finished Saturday night with seven key passes, but Chivas weren't unable to score with any of their six shots on target. If Alan Pulido or Ronaldo Cisneros can't score, their season will be a disappointing one.
17. LOBOS BUAP (+1)
Before their Week 6 match against Atlas, striker Julian Quinones had only scored once. It was a low number for a player who had been Lobos' attacking engine last season. On Saturday, Quinones got a brace with two outside-the-box goals, helping Lobos on their way to a massive win.
18. ATLAS (-1)
After getting a big time 2-1 win over Cruz Azul last weekend, Atlas generated a lot of expectation ahead of its visit to Lobos BUAP but lost 3-1. Los Rojinegros' current form is just as bad as that of their neighbors, Chivas.
