Real Betis 'optimistic' about signing Barcelona forward Cristian Tello

Real Betis have joined Fiorentina in showing an interest in signing Barcelona forward Cristian Tello this summer.

Tello spent the last 18 months on loan at Fiorentina and the Italian club have an option to purchase him for €8 million.

According to El Mundo Deportivo, Fiorentina will not exercise that option but are willing to negotiate a lower fee to acquire Tello.

And Betis president Angel Haro says his club are also keen on the 25-year-old, who is under contract with Barcelona until June 2018.

"He is a player that interests us a lot and we are working on it," Haro told Cadena Cope. "I'm optimistic regarding Tello but there are other teams in the negotiations and it's not a done deal yet."

Betis are reportedly prepared to pay up to €8m to acquire Tello and offer him a four-year contract while making him the highest-paid player on the team.

Tello has also reportedly attracted the attention of other European clubs, including Zenit St Petersburg, after making 36 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina last season, 22 of them as a starter, helping the club finish eighth in the standings. He expressed his desire to continue at Fiorentina back in March.

A youth product of Barcelona, Tello made his first-team debut for the club in 2011. He made 86 appearances, scoring 20 goals, while winning one La Liga title and two Copa del Reys among other trophies, before leaving the club on loan for Porto in the summer of 2014.

Betis are keen to strengthen their squad after a disappointing 2016-17 campaign which saw them win just 10 and lose 19 of their 38 games to finish 15th in La Liga.

Looking for a change in fortunes, they appointed former Las Palmas coach Quique Setien in May.
