Who should the Yankees pick to replace Joe Girardi?

The New York Yankees exceeded expectations in 2017, finishing 91-71 and advancing to Game 7 of the American League Championship Series before losing to the Houston Astros. But all of that wasn't enough for manager Joe Girardi to keep his job. With a contract that ran out after the season, the Yankees and Girardi decided he wouldn't return.

Girardi managed the Yankees for 10 seasons (2008-17), compiling a regular-season record of 910-710 and winning one World Series (2009).

The question now turns to who will manage the Yankees in 2018. We asked ESPN.com's Brad Doolittle, Red Sox reporter Scott Lauber and Yankees reporter Andrew Marchand to weigh in on what the future holds in the Bronx.

1. Who are the best fits?

Andrew Marchand: Internally, Rob Thomson could be the choice. He has been in the organization for 28 years, and he was Girardi's bench coach. He has a very good rapport with the front office, the players and the media. Plus, he would likely be open to advanced analytics.
