Braves, Sean Rodriguez agree to 2-year, $11 million deal

The Atlanta Braves have reached an agreement with free-agent infielder Sean Rodriguez on a two-year deal worth more than $11 million, an MLB source confirmed to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on Thursday.

Fox Sports first reported the deal.

In the past two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Rodriguez, 31, averaged .260 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs. He finished last season with 18 home runs, 56 RBIs and a .270 batting average, all of which were career highs.

Pirates general manager Neal Huntington made it clear in late September that he'd like to keep Rodriguez in Pittsburgh.

"We'd love to have Sean remain in a Pirate uniform," Huntington told Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "Given what he's done this year, we would fully anticipate that there's going to be quite a market out there for him."

Rodriguez, who played 71 games over two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and for five seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, made $2.5 million in 2016.
