Trevor May will have Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow on Wednesday, the Minnesota Twins right-hander announced on Twitter.
Tomorrow is the day. My replacement is coming from my knee, so I'm going to look like I got hit by a bus in about 24 hours.

May, 27, was competing for the fifth spot in the Twins' rotation before tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow while throwing a curveball during an exhibition game earlier this month. He was advised to undergo the surgery after seeking a second opinion.
Also on Tuesday, the Twins granted veteran right-hander Ryan Vogelsong his release. He also had been competing for a spot at the back end of the Minnesota rotation this spring.
