Brewers activate Lorenzo Cain, put Ryan Braun, Manny Pina on DL

The Milwaukee Brewers got one member of their starting outfield back from the disabled list Sunday but placed another on the DL in his place.

Lorenzo Cain, who has been sidelined since June 24 with a left groin strain, was reinstated Sunday, but Ryan Braun went on the 10-day DL with a back strain. Braun was scratched from Saturday night's lineup against the Atlanta Braves but pinch hit in the ninth.

Cain batted third and played center field Sunday in the Brewers' 10-3 victory against the Braves. He went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Cain is now hitting .290 with eight home runs, 26 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Braun is hitting just .235 but has 10 home runs and 35 RBIs.

This is the second time this season Braun has been on the DL because of his back. He missed six games in May because of back problems.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Braun's injury involves trouble with his back on the right side.

"Hopefully, two weeks kind of resets him," Counsell said.

The Brewers also placed catcher Manny Pina on the 10-day DL Sunday with a left biceps strain (retroactive to Saturday). The club recalled catcher Jacob Nottingham from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take his spot on the roster.

"(Pina) injured himself Saturday night swinging the bat," Counsell said. "We had some tests, there is an injury there that he is unable to swing the bat for about a week. He'll be active after the All-Star break."

In other moves, the Brewers called up right-hander Corbin Burnes and infielder Nate Orf from Colorado Springs, and optioned right-hander Aaron Wilkerson to Triple-A and designated left-hander Mike Zagurski for assignment.
