The St. Louis Cardinals placed Ivan Herrera on the 10-day injured list Saturday with lower back tightness and recalled fellow catcher Nick Raposo from Triple-A Memphis.
Memphis also announced that All-Star catcher Willson Contreras is scheduled to continue his rehab assignment with the team. Contreras has been out since he was hit by a swing May 7, breaking his left forearm. He had surgery the following day.
Herrera, 24, is batting .279 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 54 games this season. His move to the injured list is retroactive to Wednesday.
Raposo, 26, will make his major league debut when he appears in a game for the Cardinals. He is batting .187 with five homers and 22 RBIs in 47 games this season with Memphis.
Also on Saturday, the Cardinals transferred right-hander Keynan Middleton from the 15-day to 60-day injured list. Middleton, 30, underwent surgery to repair his flexor tendon earlier this month and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
