Schafer sore after foul ball off leg

ATLANTA -- Jordan Schafer has been removed from the Atlanta Braves' lineup against the New York Mets because of a left quadriceps contusion.

B.J. Upton replaced Schafer in Wednesday's lineup and will hit leadoff and play center field. Schafer fouled a ball off his left leg in his pinch-hit appearance in Tuesday night's 3-1 win over New York.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez is resting shortstop Andrelton Simmons, third baseman Chris Johnson and catcher Brian McCann on Wednesday. Paul Janish is starting at shortstop, Elliot Johnson is at third base and Gerald Laird is catching.
