When Jason Kidd is enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this fall, he'll be introduced by another all-time great point guard from Oakland, California.
Hall of Famer and fellow Oakland native Gary Payton will do the honors of inducting Kidd into the Hall of Fame at the ceremony on Sept. 7 in Springfield, Massachussetts, a source told ESPN's The Undefeated.
The two were point guard contemporaries in the NBA, with Kidd's career spanning from 1994 to 2013 and Payton's spanning from 1990 to 2007. Both grew up in the Bay Area, and Kidd has often referred to Payton as a mentor.
Kidd ranks second in career assists behind Hall of Famer John Stockton and third with 107 career triple-doubles. He was a 10-time All-Star and won a championship with the 2010-11 Dallas Mavericks.
Payton was inducted into the Hall in 2013 following a 13-year career in which he made nine All-Star teams.
Joining Kidd as part of the 2018 class are Ray Allen, Maurice Cheeks, Grant Hill and Steve Nash.
