Source: Tim Hardaway Jr. picks up option with Dallas Mavericks

Tim Hardaway Jr. is exercising his $18.9 million player option with the Dallas Mavericks after thriving in a starting role last season, a source told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

Hardaway joined the Mavericks as part of the Kristaps Porzingis blockbuster with the Knicks in January 2019.

He has proved more than just a salary-cap dump during his time with Dallas. In 71 games last season, including 58 starts, the point guard averaged 15.8 points while shooting a career-high 39.8% from 3-point range.

The 28-year-old will be entering his eighth NBA season, with previous stops with the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. He holds career averages of 13.5 points on 42.1% shooting from the field and 35.3% shooting from 3-point range.
