Super Netball's Victorian teams to relocate to Queenslad for start of 2020 season

Super Netball's two Victorian sides will relocate to Queensland on Sunday, in a move to ensure the 2020 season can get underway on its proposed start date of Aug. 1.

Players and staff from the Melbourne Vixens and Collingwood Magpies have been granted exemptions to fly into the state from the Queensland government, with the two clubs to spend 14 days in quarantine before the season starts.

The league has said all players and staff from Victoria will be tested for coronavirus twice during their mandatory quarantine -- on days four and 10 of the process.

In a statement released Saturday, Super Netball CEO Chris Symington said the COVID-19 situation in Victoria had thrown up some "substantial challenges" that needed to be negotiated in order for the season to begin on time.

"Our operations team has worked closely with government and all of our key stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcome for our playing group and competition overall," he said.

"We thank the Queensland's chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young and [NSW health minister] Brad Hazzard enormously for their assistance over the past two weeks in providing exemptions for our Victorian teams. This support has ensured that the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season is able to get underway safely.

"We understand the sacrifice that our athletes, support staff and umpires who are having to relocate are making by being away from their home and loved ones for an extended period and appreciate their willingness to do what it takes to ensure we're able to get the 2020 season started. We'll continue to work closely with these clubs and ensure they're adequately supported."

The league has indicated it will need to be "flexible" in working towards a revised fixture for the competition, with clubs being unable to play at their home venues due to the current landscape.
