Nigeria's Olympic football team have been left stranded at their hotel in Atlanta, just 36 hours before their opening match of the 2016 Games in Brazil.

Payment processing issues with their chartered aircraft company means the team will not leave the U.S. until at least Wednesday afternoon.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sources told ESPN FC that the issue comes from the Nigeria Sports Ministry, whose responsibility it is to transport the Olympic contingent.

According to one NFF source, payment has been made but international currency transfer issues means the charter company is yet to see the funds.

"The money has been paid by the Sports Ministry from what we have been told, but it has not got to the airline's account yet," the source said.

A team official in Atlanta however told ESPN FC that the squad have been asked to prepare to leave for the airport at 3 p.m. BST (10 a.m. ET.)

Samson Siasia's squad are due to play Japan at 2 a.m. BST (9 p.m. ET) on Friday, Aug. 5 in Manaus.

Nigeria are in Group B alongside Sweden, Colombia and Japan.
