India's Apurvi Chandela won gold in the women's 10m air rifle event at the World Cup in Munich after shooting a total score of 251 in the final on Sunday. Compatriot Elavenil Valarivan finished fourth with a score of 208.3.

Wang Luyao (250.8) and Xu Hong (229.4), both from China, won the silver and bronze respectively.

Earlier, Chandela had finished second in qualifying with a total score of 633, while Valarivan was second (632.7). Anjum Moudgil shot 628.9 to finish in 11th place, 1.1 points outside the final qualifying score of 630.

It was Chandela's second ISSF World Cup gold of the year. In February, she had won top honours in New Delhi with a world-record score of 252.9 in the final.

In the second leg in Beijing, she had finished just outside the medal bracket -- at fourth place.

Last September, Chandela and Moudgil became the first Indian shooters to win quotas for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after they finished fourth and second respectively in the 10m air rifle event at the World Championships.

A country can earn a maximum of two possible quotas. India have secured both their quotas for this event but can choose to send different shooters for the Olympics.
