Mostert to race in IndyCar online series

Holden's Chaz Mostert is poised to become the latest Supercars driver to take on the IndyCar field.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United star is confirmed to compete in the next round of the American open-wheel championship's online series this Sunday.

Defending Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin has already competed in two rounds of IndyCar's iRacing Challenge, posting a win in his opening event before crashing with a lapped car earlier this week when battling for the lead with Penske teammate Will Power.

Mostert will race an Andretti Autosport car with Alexander Rossi as his teammate for round five of the challenge, to take part on a virtual Circuit of the Americas layout.

"It's super exciting to compete in my first IndyCar race, even if it is virtually," the 2014 Bathurst champion said.

"I'll be looking to do a solid job, I'm not expecting too much.

"I've driven a Supercar around COTA once, but I'm tipping the IndyCar will be a different kettle of fish."

The favour will be repaid next Wednesday when Rossi lines up alongside Mostert in a WAU Commodore for the next round of the Supercars' online All Stars Eseries.

The 28-year-old American, who raced as a wildcard at last year's Bathurst 1000 alongside James Hinchcliffe, will feature in races at the virtual Watkins Glen and Toronto circuits.

He'll be the latest overseas driver to compete alongside the Supercars' field after Power competed in Wednesday's Bathurst race and Formula One star Max Verstappen took part in the second round of races last week.
