Carter scores 27, A&M women top LSU 75-69 in SEC quarters

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Chennedy Carter scored 27 points, a Texas A&M record in a Southeastern Conference Tournament game, Khaalia Hillsman had a double-double and the No. 15 Aggies edged No. 24 LSU 75-69 on Friday in the quarterfinals.

The fifth-seeded Aggies (24-8) secured their fourth straight win with Carter going 6 for 6 from the foul line in the last minute, while the fourth-seeded Tigers (19-9) missed three shots before a late basket. Texas A&M meets league champion and second-ranked Mississippi State in the first semifinal on Saturday.

There were 12 ties and 25 lead changes. The last lead for the Tigers came with 3:55 to play on two free throws by Chloe Jackson after Danni Williams was called for a deliberate foul. The Aggies took the lead for good on a 3-point play by Hillsman at 3:14.

Carter hit a jumper at 1:40 and Ayana Mitchell countered with a tipin for the Tigers at 1:13 to make it 69-67 heading into the final minute.

Hillsman had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Williams scored 15 for the Aggies.

Mitchell had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Raigyne Williams scored 17 and Jackson added 16 points for the Tigers.
