Women's College Basketball, South Florida Bulls

South Florida senior guard Kitija Laksa is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL and meniscus in her right knee during the No. 21 Bulls' 88-39 victory over Bethune-Wildcats on Thursday.

The school announced Laksa's injury Friday after an MRI.

The 6-foot Laksa, a native of Latvia who played for her home country in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in September, was 18th on espnW's preseason list of the top 25 players in women's college basketball this season.

She won an espnW player of the week honor last season after scoring 25 points against East Carolina and 41 against Ohio State.

Laksa led the Bulls in scoring the past two seasons and was named to the American Athletic Conference first team both years. She averaged 19.2 points as a sophomore and 21.1 points as a junior. She also shot 96.5 percent (111 of 115) from the free throw line last season.

Through three games this season, Laksa was averaging 16.3 points.
