Chris Anderson (West Valley, Hemet)
Despite carrying the ball just eight times, he rushed for over 200 yards for the second week in a row with 220 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 70-0 win over Coachella Valley of Thermal.
Damien Bell-White (Modesto Christian)
Known as a top receiver, Bell-White got it done on defense to help Modesto Christian past Chowchilla 26-7. He finished with three interceptions and was credited with six tackles.
Cameron Birse (San Ramon Valley, Danville)
The Air Raid sirens went off in Folsom last week in an aerial attack that featured 713 yards and six touchdowns combined passing. Unfortunately for Birse and the Wolverines, they were both on the short end, 31-20 on the scoreboard, and 335 yards and two TDs passing for the senior quarterback.
Deven Boston (Buena Park)
After posting 173 yards and five touchdowns in the season opener, Boston bolted for 241 yards and four touchdowns in the Coyotes' 35-0 win over Schurr of Montebello.
Jake Browning (Folsom)
It wasn't quite as huge as the sophomore’s opening week that saw him throw for 10 touchdown passes, but he did pass for 375 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-20 win over San Ramon Valley of Danville.
Austin Cardoza (Exeter)
There were a few heading for the exits early in Exeter’s 48-6 victory over Woodlake. Cardoza led the way for the victors with 26 carries for 211 yards and three touchdowns.
Chase Chambers (Murrieta Mesa, Murrieta)
Another impressive sophomore passer is Chambers, who put up big numbers with 365 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-12 win over Hemet.
Lavon Coleman (Lompoc)
With the game on the line, the Braves (2-0, 22-game win streak) kept handing Coleman the ball and he rewarded that game plan. He ended with 233 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-14 win over Frontier of Bakersfield.
Anthony Cota (Sierra, Manteca)
A school record fell to Cota after he scored seven touchdowns to lead the Timberwolves past Grace Davis of Modesto 52-7. Cota also had 18 carries for 195 yards.
Gerardo Dominiko (San Rafael)
After swapping positions from fullback to running back when the starter went out in the first half, the sophomore and native of Fiji led the Bulldogs to their first win since 2010 with a 246-yard, two touchdown performance in a 70-42 win over San Francisco Marshall.
Mason Dossey (Capistrano Valley, Mission Viejo)
Trailing Santa Fe Christian by 19 points at halftime, Dossey tossed the Cougars to victory as he passed for 329 yards and five touchdowns in the 41-39 come-from-behind victory.
Ryan Esslinger (Whittier Christian, La Habra)
Not only did this junior signal caller sling the ball for 256 yards and four touchdowns but he also rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown in a 49-6 win over Cantwell Sacred Heart.
Casey Eugenio (JSerra Catholic, San Juan Capistrano)
Named the Athlete of the Week by OC Varsity, Eugenio did it all in a 37-21 win over Wilson of Long Beach. He ran for 78 yards, returned a punt for a score, completed a pass, blocked an extra-point and intercepted two passes.
Robert Frazier (Elk Grove)
With the game against Lincoln of Stockton behind them, the Thundering Herd (2-0) used a big game by Frazier to breeze past Beyer of Modesto 48-0. He rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns.
Jared Goff (Marin Catholic, Kentfield)
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Cal-bound Elite 11 standout wasn’t exactly pinpoint except when he had to be, completing 14 of 30 passes for 344 yards and four TDs in a 28-21 win over St. Ignatius of San Francisco. He led a come-from-behind win for the second straight week and in the same fashion as last year’s win over St. Ignatius. Trailing 21-7 to begin the fourth quarter, Goff got busy. His third-down, 20-yard TD strike to Colton Hanley on a crossing pattern broke a 21-21 tie with 1:43 remaining. Earlier, Goff had fired TD passes of 80 yards to Andrew Celis and, on the first play of the fourth quarter, two yards to Hanley.
Curtis Goins (Vacaville)
The Bulldogs’ senior running back/defensive back was big on both sides of the ball in a 35-27 road win over San Jose Valley Christian. Goins rushed for 101 yards, took a 74-yard screen pass for a touchdown, scored a second touchdown on a 53-yard fumble recovery. He also added a pass interception on defense.
Eli Gutierrez (Merced)
QBs named Eli are supposed to be good, right? The one from Merced shined during the Bears’ 45-41 shootout win against Downey of Modesto. He completed 15 of 29 passes for 239 yards and five touchdowns. Downey’s Aaron Zwahlen went 24 of 45 for 232 yards and five scores.
Sty Hairston (Banning)
Known more for rushing the ball than passing, this quarterback put up a huge rushing performance in a 62-32 win over Cathedral City. Hairston only carried 14 times, but piled up 398 yards and six touchdowns.
Jacob Hernandez (Lindsay)
He rushed for a game high of 272 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns (35, 70 and 60 yards) as the Cardinals beat Immanuel of Reddley 34-7.
Jorge Hernandez & Mike Jurado (North, Torrance)
Hernandez passed for 391 yards and six touchdowns while Jurado was on the receiving end for nine catches and 270 yards with two touchdowns as the Saxons defeated Peninsula of Palos Verdes Estates 42-3.
Jesse Lewis (Alameda)
The Hornets’ quarterback buzzed Larkspur Redwood for 330 yards passing with five touchdowns in a 49-20 victory. He also had a couple of long punts.
Alea Lopez (Seaside)
According to John Devine of the Monterey Herald, Lopez became the first girl from Monterey County to ever score a touchdown when she did it in Seaside’s 47-0 triumph against Jefferson of Daly City. She also, in fact, could be the second for Northern California and third for the state. The first girl reportedly to accomplish the feat was Lorenza Coronado of Long Beach Jordan in 1995 on a two-yard reception. The next was Kiashira Ruiz of Gustine in 2003 on a four-yard run.
Estuardo Marcos (Los Altos)
Not only did he return two kickoffs for touchdowns but he also rushed for a score and returned a fumble for six points as the Conquerors defeated Salesian of Los Angeles 48-34.
Anthony McBride (Piedmont Hills, San Jose)
The Pirates’ quarterback passed for 314 yards and five touchdowns but his team fell 59-34 to host Salinas.
Jack McInally & Guy Demazelier (Brethren Christian, Huntington Beach)
It had to seem like every time McInally dropped back to pass it ended in six points as he completed 19 passes for 272 yards and six touchdowns to lift the Warriors (2-0) past Arrowhead Christian of Redlands 43-7. Demazelier was the go-to Guy on the receiving end for four of those six touchdown passes and ended with eight catches for 123 yards.
Conner Manning & Dominic Collins (El Toro, Lake Forest)
For the second week in a row, Manning passed for over 400 yards as he completed 31 of his 45 pass attempts for 419 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-10 win over Clovis at the Mission Viejo Football Classic. Collins caught 11 passes for 115 yards and one of the scores.
Michael Page (Salesian, Richmond)
If not for Page, you probably could have turned the page on the Pride’s 23-game winning streak. He piled up 252 yards rushing on 21 carries but only found pay dirt once. Fortunately for the Salesian faithful, he was the only one to score in a 7-3 win at Middletown.
Corbin Quinonez (Mission Oak, Tulare)
The senior quarterback passed for a school record six touchdowns and was 10 of 15 for 198 yards in a 54-14 romp past Hanford West. Quinonez found big-time tight end Kevin Palma for four of the TD passes.
Rashaad Penny (Norwalk)
Besides rushing for 272 yards and two scores, Penny also caught two passes for 88 yards and a score as the Lancers moved to 2-0 with a 52-38 win over Diamond Bar.
T.J. Randall (Clovis East, Clovis)
Keeping the Timberwolves close to Tulare all night with his passing in an eventual 33-30 loss, Randall had a huge outing with 26 completions in 42 attempts for 420 yards and two scores.
Hayden Rettig (Cathedral, Los Angeles)
Showing why he is headed to LSU, Rettig passed for six touchdowns and 233 yards in a 61-12 win over Banning of Wilmington.
Oscar Reyes (Tulare)
Record-setting senior passed for three touchdowns on 18 of 35 and had 312 yards through the air to lead Tulare past Clovis East 33-30. Jakob Hasten-Stevens had 10 receptions for 101 yards while J.P. Pimentel had seven for 186.
Christian Ruiz (Paraclete, Lancaster)
The junior linebacker scored on a 60-yard interception return and had a forced fumble he recovered to turn the tide for the Spirits in their 35-10 win against Burroughs of Burbank. Ruiz also ended with 10 tackles, two for a loss.
Kyle Salao (Salinas)
The Cowboys’ senior defensive back took both a 40 and 72-yard interception to the house and returned a kickoff 85 yards for a third score in a 59-34 win over visiting San Jose Piedmont Hills.
James Sams (Los Banos)
Perhaps the top senior running back in the Modesto Bee’s circulation area, Sams led the Tigers (2-0) past Roosevelt of Fresno 47-21 by scoring six touchdowns. He also had 13 carries for 224 yards.
Nick Sheehan (Miramonte, Orinda)
After injuries sidelined the Matadors' first- and second-string quarterbacks, the wide receiver and defensive back was forced to step into the starting quarterback role on the road in Eureka last Saturday. He completed 18 of 28 passes for 257 yards, including six touchdowns, as he led the Matadors to a convincing 55-19 win over the Loggers.
Matt Simko & Luis Napoles (Chino Hills)
Simko passed for 363 yards and a score in a 48-48 tie against Bishop Amat of La Puente. Napoles led the Chino Hills rushing attack and scored four touchdowns.
Holden Smith (Carmel)
North Salinas couldn’t hold Holden in a 49-29 Carmel victory. The junior tailback rushed for 241 yards (201 yards in the second quarter) and four touchdowns.
Kevin Sundberg (Fowler)
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound senior lineman had 11 tackles, recovered a fumble on his team’s 1-yard line and blocked a field goal in Fowler’s 26-20 triumph over Firebaugh. Sundberg, who gave away his jersey prior to the game to a young cancer patient, also was a standout blocker on offense.
Markiece Taylor (Costa Mesa)
As the go-to guy in the passing game, Taylor caught seven passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns as the Mustangs earned their first win of the season by beating Santiago of Garden Grove 45-14.
Ricky Town (St. Bonaventure, Ventura)
This sophomore signal caller is quickly getting his name known around town as he passed for 336 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for a score during a 40-35 win over Centennial of Corona.
P.J .Walker (Citrus Hill, Perris)
It’s just two weeks into the season but this junior back looks to be leading the state in rushing with 613 yards. Walker rushed for 279 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-7 win last week over Arroyo Valley of San Bernardino.
Jeremy Whigham (Roosevelt, Fresno)
He opened the season by rushing for 246 yards on 24 carries and scored two times in a 47-21 losing effort to Los Banos.
Howard Wikle (Valley Christian, Dublin)
He just missed rushing for 200 yards in the season opener but he made it and then some in a 36-6 win by Valley Christian over Capuchino of San Bruno . Wikle finished with 211 yards and three scores.
Errian Wingfield (Sunnyside, Fresno)
In a 21-0 blanking of Lemoore, Wingfield blew upfield for long runs of 62 and 87 yards and finished with 205 yards on 24 carries.
Joey Wittlake (South Fork, Miranda)
The 8-man football star from the far north had 332 yards and three TDs passing and 102 yards and a fourth score rushing but his team lost 61-28 to Calistoga.
