LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers are not just waiting for potential reinforcements via trades, they are also looking forward to getting the league’s most banged-up roster healthy again.

The status of a number of injured players were updated Sunday, with the biggest news coming with Enrique Hernandez (rib cage inflammation) being activated off the disabled list. Austin Barnes was optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room on the active roster.

Manager Dave Roberts did reveal that reliever Chris Hatcher (oblique) is not expected to pitch again this season. Hatcher already had been moved to the 60-day disabled list.

Making progress on his current minor league rehab assignment is left-hander Brett Anderson, who had an arthroscopic back procedure done during spring training. Anderson’s next rehab outing will be a five-inning start this week with either Oklahoma City or Class A Rancho Cucamonga, but he will not be ready to join the Dodgers after that outing.

Roberts also confirmed that if left-hander Alex Wood is able to return this season from an elbow issue, he will be used as a relief pitcher, not in the rotation. And pitchers Yimi Garcia and Carlos Frias are making progress from their issues.

Still expected to pitch again this season are Casey Fien and Frankie Montas. Projected as a starter, Montas could be used as a reliever in September if he is ready to return from multiple rib injuries.

The Dodgers had already given an update on left-hander Clayton Kershaw, with Roberts saying Saturday that the staff ace still has not resumed baseball activities. Kershaw last pitched June 26 at Pittsburgh, when a lower back injury surfaced.

As for Andre Ethier's return from a lower leg fracture, the outfielder's mobility remains limited and his return this season is still unknown. Ethier did say last week he is optimistic he can return.
