Pitcher Shane Watson of Lakewood was selected 40th overall by the Philadelphia Phillies in Monday's MLB Draft.

Watson posted a 1.19 ERA this season, striking out 79 batters in 53 innings to lead the Lakewood to a 25-7 record. The right-hander has signed to play at USC.

Harvard-Westlake's dynamic pitching duo of Max Fried and Lucas Giolito were other Southland pitchers selected Monday -- Fried going seventh overall to the San Diego Padres and Giolito 16th to the Washington Nationals. Fried and Giolito are UCLA signees.

Upland infielder Daniel Robertson, also a UCLA signee, was chosen 34th overall by the Oakland Athletics.
