NBA Rumor Central: Extensions unlikely for Pistons' Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Reggie Bullock

Earlier this month, Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations and head coach Stan Van Gundy said he was hoping to sign starting shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and backup small forward Reggie Bullock to contract extensions by Monday's deadline. Well, on Sunday, Van Gundy didn't sound optimistic that agreements will be done for either player.

“We don’t have anything yet,” Van Gundy told the Detroit Free Press. “We still would like to, but it’s not the end of the world. On those things, it has to be something that both sides feel good about."

The Pistons probably will become a tax team in 2017-18 and paying Caldwell-Pope what he wants will cost Tom Gores, but that is something the owner has said he is willing to do to retain his guard.

If Caldwell-Pope and Bullock do not sign extensions, they will become restricted free agents in 2017.

“It’s hard to be optimistic when you’ve only got one day to go, but we’d still like to get something done,” Van Gundy said.

To begin the 2016-17 season, Caldwell-Pope is averaging 10.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Bullock is yet to play in the first three games due to back spasms.
