Staley to play two at Mississippi State

Elijah Staley (Marietta, Ga./Wheeler), a four-star, dual-threat quarterback on the gridiron and a three-star small forward on the hardwood, has committed to play both football and basketball for the Bulldogs, the Clarion Ledger reports.

"I love the whole college town," he said. "It seems like one big family there. I love their facilities and love their coaching staff for both basketball and football. It's SEC and the fan base down there is ridiculous."

The 6-foot-6, 208-pound standout originally committed to Vanderbilt in April but went back on the market in May after it became apparent that the Commodores wanted him to focus on one sport.

Appalachian State, Boston College, Marshall, Massachusetts and Virginia were his other football offers.

Staley is a key addition for the Bulldogs, who recently lost their prized quarterback recruit from 2013. Four-star Cord Sandberg (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee) was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft and signed for $725,000.

Mississippi State has nine commitments for 2014.
