Shooting guard Silas Melson (Portland, Ore./Jefferson) verbally committed to Gonzaga on Wednesday, The Oregonian reported.

The 6-foot-3 Melson chose the Bulldogs over Colorado State and Washington.

"They were on me the hardest," Melson told the paper. "They had the best basketball fit for me, along with being one of the best schools on the West Coast to get an education.

"And they were the No. 1 team in the country, so ... it's hard to turn that down."

Melson is the first recruit from the 2014 class for Gonzaga.
