          Best of the college football recruiting visits: Big 12

          While things didn’t go as expected on the field for Baylor Saturday against Oklahoma, the Bears still used the opportunity of a marquee, nationally televised Saturday night game to host a number of top recruits. And from all indications those recruits liked what they saw, even with the loss. Here’s a look at the top visitors from a very busy weekend in the Big 12 viewed through social media:

          The Bears have the top-ranked class in the Big 12 and rank in the top 20 nationally, and a big part of that elite class is No. 1 ranked offensive guard Patrick Hudson of Silsbee (Texas) High School. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound ESPN 300 prospect was in Waco for Saturday’s game and tweeted this picture before it all got started.

          Hudson wasn’t the only committed prospect in town. The Bears also hosted top committed prospects for unofficial visits like offensive lineman J.P. Urquidez and running back Kameron Martin. Both are four-star prospects. Overall the Bears hosted more than 100 visitors, many in the 2017 and 2018 classes like five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson.

          Another elite in-state recruit at Baylor was Houston Westside defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, the No. 11 tackle in the country and the 47th-ranked player overall. Many project Elliott to end up at Texas, but the Bears have been on him since the beginning and are certainly a factor along with other schools like Michigan and Alabama. It was a big deal to get Elliott on campus for the official visit, and it’ll be interesting to see what his thoughts are after he has time to digest what he saw.

          The Bears also hosted a good group of junior college recruits for official visits. This included Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College offensive lineman Branton Autry and his teammate, coveted cornerback Jamarcus King. Also there in Waco was Highland (Kansas) Community College linebacker Tyree Horton.

          Iowa State hosted a large contingent of visitors this weekend, including a number of coveted junior college players like Blinn (Texas) College offensive lineman Abdul Beecham, Fullerton (California) College teammates tight end Tim Holt and offensive lineman Breontae Matthews.

          There were a few high school recruits in Ames, too, including offensive lineman Michael Smith of Frostproof (Florida) High School and running back Kene Nwangwu of Frisco (Texas) High School.

          Texas Tech used its home game against Kansas State to host a strong group of visitors, including fast-rising uncommitted cornerback Desmon Smith of Odessa (Texas) Permian and longtime defensive end commitment Houston Miller.
