Minors 8.1.15: Kevin McGowan, David Roseboom combine on shutout

LAS VEGAS 8, TACOMA 4: Ex-Padre Tim Stauffer, signed out of independent ball with the Sugar Land Skeeters, allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings in his organization debut. Matt Reynolds went 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Dilson Herrera and Wilfredo Tovar drove in two runs apiece. Box

BINGHAMTON 6, RICHMOND 5: Joe Benson supplied a tiebreaking, pinch-hit single in the sixth and Jon Velasquez and Paul Sewald slammed the door by retiring the game's final eight Richmond batters. With the B-Mets trailing 4-3 in the sixth, Josh Rodriguez stole second and scored on Vince Belnome's single. Benson, pinch-hitting for Gabriel Ynoa, greeted reliever Pedro Rodriguez with an RBI single. Gavin Cecchini capped the three-run frame with a run-scoring infield single. The lead nearly slipped away in the seventh. Josh Smoker allowed the first two batters he faced to reach. Mitch Delfino then cut Richmond's deficit to a run with a sacrifice fly while getting robbed of a hit on a diving catch by center fielder Gilbert Gomez. Velasquez inherited two baserunners from Smoker with one out. With the potential tying run on third base, Velasquez struck out Jackson Williams and Devin Harris to preserve Binghamton’s one-run lead. Velasquez returned to post a perfect eighth. Sewald struck out two in the ninth en route to his 17th save. Ynoa (8-7) allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits and a walk in five innings. Box

ST. LUCIE 6, CLEARWATER 0: Kevin McGowan allowed four hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings. He struck out six in a 102-pitch effort. The Mets scored in each of the first four innings. They were aided by a wild David Whitehead, who walked three batters, plunked two and threw two wild pitches. Dominic Smith put the Mets up 1-0 on a groundout that plated Yeixon Ruiz. Jhoan Urena's RBI single and a double-play grounder from Colton Plaia bumped the lead to 3-0 in the second. Victor Cruzado’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the third opened a four-run lead. The Mets chased Whitehead with two outs in the fourth. Cody Forsythe entered, issued a walk, then surrendered back-to-back RBI singles to Matt Oberste and Smith. McGowan struck out four in a row at one point, including the side in the third. Since allowing 14 hits and 12 earned runs at Charlotte on July 21, McGowan has given up one run in 14 innings. David Roseboom tossed the final two innings. Smith finished with two RBIs. Oberste was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. Urena had the other multi-hit game for the Mets. Box

BATAVIA 10, BROOKLYN 3: The Muckdogs plated six first-inning runs as starter Andrew Church was knocked out after recording only two outs. It marked the shortest outing by a Cyclones starter this season. Tucker Tharp and David Thompson contributed solo homers in the loss. Box
