Rapid Reaction: Rays 5, Mets 4

ST. PETERSBURG -- You can't win them all.

Noah Syndergaard lasted a career-low-matching four innings, and the New York Mets had their seven-game winning streak snapped Saturday night with a 5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at sold-out Tropicana Field.

The Mets (59-51) had been bidding to match their high-water mark for the season at 10 games over .500.

Lucas Duda's two-run double against Nathan Karns in the top of the first gave the Mets a 3-0 lead, but Syndergaard surrendered four runs in the bottom half.

Travis d'Arnaud twice batted with runners on the corners and two outs but struck out. He finished 0-for-4 with three Ks.

Grand stand: Curtis Granderson homered in each of the opening two innings -- delivering a leadoff shot in the first against Nathan Karns, then a solo homer that evened the score at 4 in the second.

With his sixth leadoff homer, Granderson matched the franchise's season record set by Jose Reyes in 2006. Granderson also pulled even with Minnesota's Brian Dozier for the most leadoff homers in the majors this season.

It marked Granderson's second multi-homer game of the season. He also went deep twice June 7 against Josh Collmenter at Arizona.

Oh-Noah: Syndergaard threw 38 pitches in a four-run, six-hit first inning by the Rays that included a two-run homer from Grady Sizemore.

Syndergaard (6-6) ultimately tossed four innings and departed trailing 5-4 with his pitch count at 98.

The fifth run scored when Ruben Tejada circled and then double-clutched on a two-out grounder from Evan Longoria in the fourth. The infield single allowed John Jaso to score from third base after a walk, stolen base and wild pitch.

Syndergaard had allowed four total first-inning runs in his 15 previous career starts, according to ESPN Stats & Information. His ERA rose from 2.66 to 3.01.

What's next: Bartolo Colon (10-10, 4.72 ERA) opposes right-hander Chris Archer (10-8, 2.54) at 1:10 p.m. ET Sunday in the rubber game.
