Minors 8.8.15: Patrick Mazeika's RBI single gives K-Mets walk-off win

SALT LAKE 5, LAS VEGAS 3; LAS VEGAS 4, SALT LAKE 1: Matt Bowman allowed four runs (three earned) in four innings in the opener. The 51s had taken a 3-1 lead in the third on Jayce Boyd's two-run single and Brandon Nimmo's run-scoring single. Boyd finished 3-for-4 with two doubles. Wilfredo Tovar went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored in the nightcap. Logan Verrett allowed one run in five innings and Vic Black earned the save. Box 1, Box 2

TRENTON 4, BINGHAMTON 2: The Thunder scored three runs against Matt Koch before the first out and never looked back. Koch remained winless since June 12. Making his fifth start, Koch was greeted with four consecutive hits to open the game. The Thunder's final run of the inning came on a wild pitch. Binghamton got two runs back in the bottom half. Gavin Cecchini and L.J. Mazzilli had back-to-back infield singles. After a pair of strikeouts, T.J. Rivera salvaged the inning with a two-run single. After allowing hits to the first four batters, Koch retired 12 of the next 13 batters. The one batter he didn’t retire was Tyler Austin, who gave Trenton a 4-2 lead with a solo homer in the third. Koch (4-6) allowed four runs on six hits in five innings. Box

ST. LUCIE 7, JUPITER 6: Knuckleballer Mickey Jannis surrendered five runs in the first inning, but St. Lucie rallied for its largest comeback of the season. With the Mets trailing 6-5 in the sixth, rehabbing Michael Cuddyer reached on an error. He scored the tying run on Dominic Smith’s RBI single. Phillip Evans gave the Mets the lead by beating out an infield single with two outs, which allowed Matt Oberste to score. Mike Hepple tossed two scoreless relief innings to earn the win. Kelly Secrest notched his first save after recording the final six outs. Shortstop Jeff McNeil's error and catcher Colton Plaia's passed ball led to four of the five runs being unearned in the first inning. Jannis gave up another run in the second, but he buckled down and didn’t allow a run in his final three innings. In the bottom of the first, Jhoan Urena legged out an infield hit to plate McNeil and make it 5-2. However, Urena left the game with a leg injury and Evans took over. Evans went on to drive in two runs. Trailing 6-2 in the third, the Mets scored three runs against starter Drew Steckenrider as Victor Cruzado, Evans and Plaia delivered consecutive RBI singles. Cuddyer played the full game in left field. He went 0-for-4 with a walk. In his two rehab games with St. Lucie, he went 0-for-7 with two walks and one run scored. Box

SAVANNAH 4, CHARLESTON 1; SAVANNAH 8, CHARLESTON 1: In Game 1, Martires Arias allowed one run on three hits in five innings and Alberto Baldonado recorded the final six outs for his fifth save. Jean Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, three RBIs and two runs scored in the nightcap as the Gnats completed the sweep. Chris Flexen (1-0) allowed one run in six innings in his season debut with Savannah. Box 1, Box 2

KINGSPORT 9, JOHNSON CITY 8: Patrick Mazeika's single plated Kevin Kaczmarski in the bottom of the ninth as the K-Mets posted a walk-off win. Mazeika finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kaczmarski also had three hits and scored twice. Box

VERMONT 6, BROOKLYN 2: Oswald Caraballo had a two-run double in the second as the Cyclones grabbed a 2-0 lead. Brooklyn starter Kevin Canelon ultimately allowed three runs in six innings. Corey Taylor allowed three runs in the seventh. Box

GCL METS 1, GCL CARDINALS 0: Joel Huertas allowed one hit in five scoreless innings and combined with Luis Carreno and Alejandro Castro on the shutout. Rehabbing Kyle Johnson started in right field and went 0-for-3. Box
