          Minors 8.7.13: B-Mets' Tovar homers twice

          ALTOONA 5, BINGHAMTON 4: Wilfredo Tovar homered twice, but B-Mets pitchers had three costly throwing errors as a five-game winning streak ended. Tovar blasted a solo shot


          lastname Tovar against Casey Sadler in the second to open the scoring. In the third, poor fielding allowed Altoona to respond. After the first two batters reached, Sadler pushed a bunt back to the mound. Erik Goeddel tried to force out the lead runner at third base, but an errant throw allowed two runners to score. Alen Hanson followed with another bunt, and Goeddel’s throw went awry down the right-field line to put Altoona up, 3-1. Cory Vaughn brought the B-Mets within a run with a solo homer in the fourth. It was his second homer since rejoining the B-Mets on Tuesday. He has seven RBIs in three games. Goeddel departed after six innings with the B-Mets trailing, 3-2. Armando Rodriguez entered in the seventh and allowed two runs in the frame. After Carlos Paulino's single, Rodriguez sent an errant pickoff attempt past first base that allowed the runner to advance to third. The next pitch was belted off the right-field wall by Mel Rojas Jr. for an RBI triple. Pinch hitter Andy Vasquez then placed a suicide squeeze down the third-base line to score the final Altoona run. In the bottom half, Tovar lifted a two-run shot over the left-field wall to bring the B-Mets within a run. Richard Lucas singled later in the inning, but was stranded. It was the first multi-homer game of Tovar's professional career. Darrell Ceciliani and Pedro Lopez were ejected in the bottom of the seventh inning by plate umpire Nick Mahrley. Box

          BRADENTON 8, ST. LUCIE 5: Starter Domingo Tapia surrendered seven runs in 1 1/3 innings. Box

          CHARLESTON 9, SAVANNAH 7: The RiverDogs snapped a seven-game losing streak, taking the lead for good with a three-run sixth. Greg Bird launched a go-ahead two-run homer against reliever Tyler Vanderheiden for the game's final runs. The Sand Gnats (23-19/66-45) had taken a brief 7-6 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The key hit in the frame was a two-run single by Nelfi Zapata. Charleston had taken its first lead, 6-4, with three runs in the top half against Savannah starter Marco Camarena. Helped by a walk and two hit-by-pitches, the 'Dogs scored three runs on just one hit in the inning. The Gnats built a 4-1 lead with two runs apiece in the first and second innings. In the second, Brandon Nimmo (3-for-5) doubled home two runs. Savannah pitching had not allowed a run in the first 18 innings of the series against Charleston. Box

          KINGSPORT 7, PULASKI 4: Starter Yoan Gonzalez allowed two runs (none earned) in six innings. The K-Mets (25-19) produced a five-run fourth that included a solo homer by Jonathan Leroux and a two-run single by Amed Rosario. Box

          BROOKLYN 4, CONNECTICUT 3: The Cyclones overcame a 3-2 deficit with a two-run eighth. Matt Oberste singled and moved to third on James Roche's double. Connecticut was forced to bring the infield in, and Jonathan Clark hit a seeing eye-single through the left side to plate the tying run. With men on the corners and one out, Tomas Nido ripped a line-drive single up the middle to give Brooklyn its first lead. John Mincone then notched his sixth save, pulling him even for the New York-Penn League lead. Box
