LAS VEGAS 16, SALT LAKE 4: Allan Dykstra, Zach Lutz, Taylor Teagarden and Brandon Allen homered in consecutive at-bats against Salt Lake's Jose Alvarez in a five-run fourth. Andrew Brown went deep an inning later, too, as Vegas pounded out 21 hits and improved to 24-10 on the season. Brown went 3-for-4 with two walks and scored five runs. Boyd seven hits and struck out seven in six innings. He also had two hits at the plate. Michael Taylor launched Gorski’s first pitch of the game for a homer. However, Gorski helped his own cause and lifted the B-Mets into the lead in the second. Kevin Plawecki singled and Dustin Lawley and Wilfredo Tovar walked to load the bases. Gorski then jumped on Blake Schwartz’s first pitch, dumping it into shallow left-center. The single, his first hit since July 9, 2012, plated two and gave Binghamton a 2-1 lead. Ricky Hague's solo homer in the fifth briefly tied the score. But in the bottom half, Gorski doubled and Schwartz issued a two-out walk to Matt Reynolds. Boyd then produced his second homer of the season -- and his second homer in three days. Travis Taijeron tacked onto the lead with a solo shot against reliever Brian Dupra in the sixth. The Senators moved to within 6-4 with two runs in the seventh against John Church. The B-Mets responded with two of their own off Dupra in the bottom half. The Cardinals struck first in the fifth. Charlie Tilson and Bruce Caldwell singled with two outs and Nick Martini drove them in with a double against Tapia. The Mets evened the score at 2 in the bottom half. With the bases loaded and one out, Dilson Herrera sent a grounder to third base. Bruce Caldwell threw wide of catcher Casey Rasmus, allowing Robbie Shields and Phillip Evans to score. Seth Lugo pitched three relief scoreless innings after replacing Tapia. Lugo allowed one single and one walk and earned his second win. No Cardinal advanced past first base after the fifth inning. Tapia surrendered two runs on five hits in five innings. Rodriguez, T.J. SAVANNAH 5, WEST VIRGINIA 3: L.J. Mazzilli's RBI single in the fifth broke a 3-all tie and Victor Cruzado added a leadoff homer in the ninth. Although Gnats pitchers Dario Alvarez, Dawrin Frias, Tim Peterson and Robert Coles each logged 2 2/3 innings or fewer, the quartet combined to strike out 13 while allowing only one earned run. 2012 first-round pick Gavin Cecchini departed after doubling and scoring in the first inning, reportedly with a right-knee issue. Savannah (three) and West Virginia (four) each tied season-high error totals. Savannah (22-9) hopped on the scoreboard in the first inning when Dominic Smith delivered a two-run single against Power starter Dovydas Neverauskas with the bases loaded. Mazzilli then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. In the third inning, West Virginia scored its only earned run. Reese McGuire singled against Alvarez to plate Harold Ramirez. Next, McGuire and Erich Weiss scored on a throwing error by Mazzilli, who had moved to shortstop in place of Cecchini. Alvarez tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out three. It was Alvarez's first earned run allowed in 19 1/3 innings this season. Frias (2-0) worked around two walks to complete 2 1/3 hitless relief innings. Peterson then pitched 2 1/3 innings, striking out four. Coles cruised through the last five outs for his sixth save.
