LAS VEGAS 8, TACOMA 3: In the resumption of Saturday's suspended game, the Rainiers
Eveland scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Jesus Montero against Vic Black. Black surrendered two hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings as his ERA climbed to a still-modest 1.23. In the regularly scheduled game, Las Vegas -- no-hit through five innings -- scored eight runs in the sixth to break a scoreless tie. Shortstop Rylan Sandoval had a two-run double, first baseman Brandon Allen a two-run triple and catcher Juan Centeno a two-run double in the frame. Left-hander Dana Eveland tossed five scoreless innings in a no-decision. He allowed five hits, walked three and struck out four. Tacoma right-hander Jordan Pries pitched 5 1/3 innings of no-hit ball, but walked four, was charged with one run and suffered the loss. Box 1, Box 2
BINGHAMTON 2, HARRISBURG 1: Kevin Plawecki threw out three attempted base stealers and contributed an RBI double and Tyler Pill struck out a season-high seven over 5 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his first win since April 18, 2013. Against Harrisburg starter
Plawecki A.J. Cole, Kyle Johnson doubled and Plawecki extended his hitting streak to eight games and gave the B-Mets a 1-0 lead with a third-inning double as well. Pill opened his sixth start of the season with two scoreless frames. He then used a pair of strikeouts to work around a one-out single in the third. Plawecki erased Cutter Dykstra’s single in the fourth by throwing him out at second on an attempted steal. Pill posted a perfect fifth before running into trouble in the sixth. Pinch-hitter Quincy Latimore opened the frame with a single, but was nabbed by Plawecki when he tried to steal second as Michael Taylor struck out. Pill’s day ended after hitting Caleb Ramsey with a 1-2 pitch. T.J. Chism took over with two outs to face Dykstra -- the son of ex-Met Lenny Dykstra -- but never needed to retire him. Ramsey was thrown out by Plawecki while trying to swipe second, ending the inning. Binghamton doubled its lead in the sixth against reliever James Simmons. Dustin Lawley doubled and took third on Cory Vaughn's single. Darrell Ceciliani then plated Lawley with a sac fly. Harrisburg got on the board without a hit in the seventh. After Adam Kolarek walked Matt Skole with one out, Justin Bloxom hit a potential inning-ending double-play ball to third. Lawley fielded it cleanly, but fired wide of second, putting runners at the corners. Ricky Hague cut Binghamton’s lead to 2-1 with a sac fly. Brian Jeroloman chased Kolarek with a leadoff single in the eighth, but Jon Velasquez entered and retired three straight. Chasen Bradford inherited the one-run lead in the ninth. After a leadoff walk and a two-out single put the tying run in scoring position, the right-hander induced Jason Martinson to chop into a game-ending fielder’s choice. Pill (1-5) allowed four hits and issued no walks. He has a 1.15 ERA in his last three starts (2 ER, 15.2 IP). Bradford earned his sixth save. Plawecki is hitting .406 (13-for-32) with five multi-hit games during his eight-game hitting streak. Box
CHARLESTON 3, SAVANNAH 1: Chris Flexen suffered his team-high fourth loss as the Gnats' five-game winning streak ended. Flexen allowed three earned runs on six hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings. The Gnats (24-10) scored in the first inning when Jared King singled home Jeff McNeil with what turned out to be an unearned run charged to Charleston starter Brady Lail. The RiverDogs righty proceeded to hold the Gnats scoreless over the next five frames to earn his fourth consecutive win. Charleston (19-16) tied the score in the third with two outs when Tyler Wade tripled and came home on Mikeson Oliberto's double. The RiverDogs tacked on two more runs in the fifth -- on an RBI single by Wade and then a sacrifice fly from Oliberto. After Flexen departed, Tim Peterson tossed 2 1/3 perfect innings. Box
