WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- New Zealand's peak automobile association has withdrawn an invitation to embattled Formula One chief Max Mosley.
Mosley, president of Formula One's governing body, the FIA, was invited to the New Zealand Automobile Association's transport and environment summit in June but organizers have now asked him not to attend.
Mosley's position has been in jeopardy since The News of the World tabloid reported March 30 that he engaged in sex acts with five prostitutes. Mosley, 67, acknowledged participating in the five-hour sex session.
New Zealand association spokesman Greg Hunting said Wednesday that Mosley would not attend the summit.
"I wrote to him late last week suggesting it might not be possible under the circumstances," Hunting told Radio New Zealand. "On the same day I received a note from him saying he regretted not being able to attend."
Several Formula One teams, national automobile bodies and ex-racing greats have criticized Mosley's conduct and some have called on him to resign.
