BATON ROUGE, La. -- The NCAA has granted LSU defensive tackle Charles Alexander a sixth year of eligibility.
Alexander, who missed all but one game in 2005 and 11 of the Tigers' 14 games during the 2007 national championship run, formally applied for an extension of his five-year clock in early January.
On Friday, LSU announced that after reviewing Alexander's documentation, the NCAA granted the additional year of eligibility.
Alexander is the only returning starter on the defensive front for the Tigers. He played 13 games with eight starts in 2008, recording 24 tackles, including one sack last season.
