Cincinnati hires John Cunningham as AD

CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati named John Cunningham its athletic director on Wednesday.

Cunningham was Minnesota's deputy athletic director from 2016 to 2019, overseeing daily administrative operations. He also has worked in various roles at Boise State, TCU, Maryland and Syracuse, where he oversaw daily operations, as well.

The Bearcats had been looking for an athletic director since Mike Bohn left for Southern California in early November. Bohn had been Cincinnati's AD for five years.

Cincinnati's football team was ranked for most of the season and lost to Memphis in the American Athletic Conference title game. The men's basketball team is 7-4 after beating No. 21 Tennessee on Wednesday night under first-year coach John Brannen, who took over when Mick Cronin went to UCLA.
