India's Heena Sindhu won gold in the 25m pistol event after shooting a score of 38 in the final at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday. Annu Singh, who was the other Indian in action, finished sixth after scoring 15 in the final.
At the end of the first stage, Sidhu and Annu were in tied second and tied fifth position after getting scores of 10 and eight respectively after the first 15 shots. Sidhu climbed to the top spot after scoring on all five shots in the sixth series to aggregate 23.
Sindhu maintained a stranglehold on the top position from there -- missing only five of her last 30 shots.
This is Sidhu's fourth medal at the Commonwealth Games. She had won a gold and silver in the women's 10m air pistol pairs and individual event respectively at the 2010 edition in New Delhi.
Sidhu had also won silver in the 10m air pistol on Sunday, finishing behind 16-year-old Manu Bhaker who won India's first gold medal in shooting at this edition.
India had won gold and silver in this event in the 2014 edition in Glasgow, where Rahi Sarnobat and Anisa Sayyed finished on the podium.
Annu and Sidhu qualified for the final after shooting scores of 584 and 579 respectively in the qualification round, where they finished second and third.
Earlier, Chain Singh and Gagan Narang missed out on a medal in the final of the men's 50m rifle prone event after finishing fourth and seventh respectively. Narang had won silver in the same event in Glasgow four years ago. An eight-time gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games, this will be the first edition from where he will return empty-handed.
