Commentator: Kanishkaa Balachandran

Presentation:

Mathews: "We witnessed a great match, esp the stand between Seekkuge and Sachitra, very pleasing to see how they fought. We knew that the dew would come into play so we were happy to chase. I thought it was still a pleasing performance so no need to panic."

Ali Inam: "Not sure if it's a post match presentation or a birthday party !!"

Hafeez is the Man of the Match: "It was much needed for me, Maqsood batted well, Sharjeel started well. I really wanted to do something in this game."

Misbah: "It was a much needed innings from Hafeez, Sharjeel a good prospect. We need to improve on the bowling and fielding, too many lapses. If the team is winning, I don't want to bat."

That's it from us here. Good start to the series. Join us for game 2 on Friday in Dubai. Thanks for your mails and company. Cheers!

End of match: Najam Sethi tweets: "Yaaaayyyyyy Team Pak wins again!!!!"

Pakistan win by 11 runs but make heavy weather of it. They were comfortably placed to win this comfortably but panic set in and a pair of attacking 40s from Prasanna and Senanayake really gave Sri Lanka hope. Pakistan just about made enough. Makes you wonder what could have been had at least one of Sanga, Chandimal or Mathews had carried on. Also, had Afridi bowled out his quota. Ask Misbah.

Dew may have been a factor. Will captains be more comfortable bowling first going forward?

Ali Wazir: "Although I'm a Pakistan fan, they way the Sri Lankans played, they deserved the victory a tad more than Pakistan. Congratulations to them for putting on such a great fight and a thrilling match!"

AB: "Pakistanis weren't playing to win, they were playing to not lose. There is a difference and that was apparent in this match!"

Senanayake made room and scooped it over cover, didn't time it well, Anwar ran forward from sweeper cover, had it covered and the ball popped out, he had the presence of mind to stick his right hand out, turn around and take the catch, phew!

  • Pakistan hang on to clinch 11-run win

Misbah-ul-Haq had implored his top order to produce an innings of substance in the approach to the series but even he may not have expected his top four to respond as emphatically as they did

  • Adamant Afridi and a fiery debutant

Plays of the Day from the first ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Sharjah

  • Misbah seeks top-order partnerships

Misbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistan captain, has called for big scores from his top-order, while Angelo Mathews wanted his batsmen to adhere to an attacking method of play

  • Top order in focus for both teams

Sri Lanka's ability to tackle spin and Pakistan's progress against the new ball might play the biggest part in determining the outcome of the first ODI in Sharjah
