19.3 back of a length outside off as Dimuth, looking to free his arms and get this behind point, instead hits this low to gully, with Asad Shafiq getting his fingers up to pluck this fast-traveling ball. What a stunner to remove the left-hander, who was looking set to lay his stall for the day 57/1
26.4 and Pakistan strike early after lunch, with Silva in two minds as he plays this back of a length delivery slanting into him. This one catches the edge, with first slip taking a catch to his right. Looks like it was Hafeez who took it. Just the start Pakistan would have wanted after the break 67/2
31.6 and Sangakkara has a rare lapse in concentration as he hits this uppishly through point off a length ball, which carries straight to backward point. He is livid with himself as he storms off the field. Big, big, big wicket there for Pakistan. Sangakkara out for 16 and Pakistan truly on top. What a difference an hour (or really 30 mins) can make 82/5
28.2 would you believe it! I don't think I have ever seen this before! Bhatti gets his man the very next ball as Mahela, looking to defend this one, gets an outside edge which carries to the keeper. Mahela shakes his head as he walks off, but replays show that he indeed hit this to the keeper, and not into the ground. So that didn't take too long then. Sri Lanka are three down and in a bit of bother after lunch 76/3
28.4 Bhatti is simply having a whale of a time, and that too on debut, as Chandimal stay's is not for long as he is gone for a two-ball duck, once again getting an outside edge to this riser from Bhatti outside off, which travels straight to Misbah, who is on his knees, but holds on to the take safely. Sri Lanka now surely in trouble as they go four down, and Sangakkara will be not impressed at the other end 76/4
64.6 and Mathews is out in the most innocuous of ways. Ajmal deceives him with one which spins away (the doosra), as he plays down the wrong line, and was advancing down the track, when the ball beat him. Adnan fumbles the first time, probably out of excitement at getting a chance of stumping Mathews, but luckily recovers in time to flick the bails as he lays sprawled on the ground. Umpire didn't need a second referral as he gives it out straightaway 204/10
35.5 And Junaid has three of his own as he gets Prasanna to bite at this one pitched on back of a length outside off, with the outside edge carrying to the keeper at a comfortable height. Sri Lanka facing a big hole here as they are now reduced to 104 for 6. Pakistan have their tail up, and will look to clear through the remaining wickets, that is if Sri Lanka allow them 104/6
39.2 Junaid gets four as Senanayake's stay at the wicket is not to be long. Bowls this on back of a length just outside off as Senanayake goes for a shot, with the ball catching the outside edge and down to the keeper, who has simply been in top form, pouncing on the chance. Sri Lanka now seven down and in danger of being routed for quite a low total. Mathews continues to hold out, but for how much longer we will have to see.. 124/7
39.3 This is top-class fast bowling from Junaid as he gets a five-for, rattling Herath's off stump with a peach of an inswinger. The stump even went for a stroll as Junaid kneels down to thank the heavens for his splendid performance. Herath is out for a golden duck, and Pakistan are over the moon with how things have shaped up this session for them 124/8
58.3 length ball outside off as Ajmal finally gets his man. Eranga looking to be a bit more loose as he goes for the cut, but gets a thick outside edge into the waiting keeper's gloves. Nine down and Pakistan will want to pluck out the remaining wicket and keep Sri Lanka under 200 185/9

18.1 cuts this one off the back foot as he plays this towards the covers. He wants the run but his partner hesitates and sends him back, with Manzoor late on the turn as Mathews throws the ball back to the keeper, who flicks the bails with Manzoor well short of his crease. And with that it is stumps for the first day 46/1
30.2 and Shehzad throws away his fine effort with a lapse in concentration as he pulls this short ball straight to backward square leg, who doesn't make a mess of it. Mathews had orchestrated that one beautifully, along with Eranga who delivered the goods 83/3
21.6 and Sri Lanka strike early in the day as Hafeez drives this length ball uppishly towards short cover point, with Silva taking a wonderful low catch to hold on to it. Makes a left-handed dive to get to that one. Already a contender for catch of the year. For those who don't know Silva is a keeper, so it was very reminscent of a catch a keeper would take. They are just checking the replays for all the usual stuff (no-ball, is catch taken cleanly, blah blah). The umpires confirm soon after, and Hafeez is outta there 59/2

94.6 what a sight for sore SL eyes as Younis Khan is bowled by an Eranga delivery that shapes in on off stump. Younis looks to have played the wrong line there. Ends a terrific innings from Younis, as Pakistan are in a very good position still with almost a 100-run lead in the works 301/4
129.1 full from Herath as Misbah looks to clear the straight boundary, but hits this more higher than farther, as Sangakkara steadies himself under it to take the catch just before the boundary rope, and has the presence of mind to break his momentum as his dive takes him dangerously close to the rope. Ends a magnificent innings from Misbah, who is starting 2014 as if its 2013 2.0 383/10
112.2 and Sri Lanka have their first wicket of the day as Shafiq flicks a fuller one going on the pads straight to Silva at short square leg, who takes a fantastic catch to his left 329/5
115.4 Sri Lanka simply on a roll this morning as Eranga is rewarded for his consistent line outside off. Not good enough from Adnan as he edges this one, going hard at it, straight to Sachithra at gully. Eranga has his third, and Pakistan now six down 342/6
124.1 length ball outside off which seems to be tickled to the keeper. The Sri Lankans go up for an appeal, but the umpire wasn't sure, so he signals for the third umpire. Doesn't seem to have got an edge on it, but let's see.. And the umpire signals that it is indeed out. It was a tough call, but because there wasn't much daylight between bat and ball, Bhatti had to go 369/7
127.4 Ajmal completely misjudges the line of this one as this one continues on, with Ajmal playing outside of it. He was crouched down and low, with the ball striking the back leg, so definitely plumb. Herath finally picks up his first wicket after throwing down 34 overs 378/8
127.5 floated on off as Ali is not going to trouble the scorers, completely misreading the line to have his off stump dislodged. Was a big gap between bat and pad as this one rushed through. Sri Lanka need just one more as Herath is now on a hat-trick 378/9

15.1 Junaid strikes for Pakistan as he beats the defenses of Dimuth to bowl him through the gate. Dimuth waiting for the front foot no-ball (hopefully Junaid doesn't pull a Bhatti) and he doesn't 47/1
61.3 length outside off and this time Junaid has his man as Silva gives a low edge to Adnan, who has to complete this take almost near his left foot. There is a bit of hesitation on the umpire's part as he wasn't sure that it had carried, but once he has received confirmation, he shows the dreaded finger. Ends a fantastic innings from Silva, who unfortunately wasn't able to take it all the way to stumps 186/4
48.6 and they have got the Big Kahuna as Sangakkara goes chasing after one outside off, with an outside edge being induced, and Younis Khan does well to complete a low take. Sangakkara goes for a well-played 55, and hope in the Pakistani camp returns 146/2
50.1 Bhatti gets Mahela again (you could say the third time if you include that no-ball from the first innings) as this is a really difficult ball to handle when you are fresh at the crease as this one rears back off a length, squaring up Mahela who gets an outside edge which pops up to gully, offering the easiest of catches. Two huge wickets back-to-back for Pakistan, and Sri Lanka will be slightly worried now 150/3
108.6 short of a length as Chandimal is enticed into a hook shot which he hits well enough to find deep fine leg. :Looked an instinctive shot as he was drawn into the shot by Junaid. Chandimal can't believe that is how he has thrown away his wicket. Goes for a superb innings of 89 which will certainly keep the detractors away for a little time 324/5
