40.2 Gul strikes. Accurate short ball, and Paranavitana finally loses patience. This is about chest high, over the leg stump, Para wants to pull, is cramped, ends up gloving it to the keeper. Pakistan are getting rewarded for their discipline here 79/3
25.5 Poor shot, lovely catch. Guided straight to slip. That's the coach's job when the fielding practice is on. Quicker, flatter, straighter one, Lahiru leans back to stylishly guide to slip, and Younis takes a smooth low catch 48/1
28.1 Cheema strikes right away after lunch, superb catch from Adnan diving in front of first slip, it was going away from Sanga with the kind of nip that Cheema has bowled with all morning, a prod produced a thick edge that flew towards first slip who seemed to have it covered before Adnan went flying to his left one-handed, tumbled on the ground but did not let go of the ball, huge strike 51/2
48.3 Gone! Big wicket. Pakistan are loving it on this hot afternoon. Short of a length, well outside off, Jayawardene pushes at it half-heartedly without any foot movement. Hafeez nearly drops it at first slip, but catches it on third attempt 112/5
47.1 lovely bowling, it's a big doosra. Pitched up on off, Dilshan plays for the offbreak, it almost breaks away, Adnan collects goes for the stumping and then appeals as an afterhtought. Dilshan is stunned to see Tony Hill's finger go up. There is daylight between bat and ball. Very good ball but he didn't get the edge. A shame really that they have DRS for ODIs, and not in Tests. I would think the administrators would have gone the other way round if they needed to give one format the miss 112/4

48.6 Junaid has turned it on here. What a beauty. Flat wicket? I don't need the wicket. Junaid bowls the perfect yorker. Lands on the crease, in front of middle. Prasanna saves his toe successfully, but the off and middle stumps stand disturbed 112/6
50.1 Junaid Khan is on fire here. He is on a hat-trick now. Length ball, angling in, skids off the surface, Herath moves across and is late into the shot. Caught deep in the crease, and is hit low on the pad. Given 114/7
64.2 Gul strikes. Lakmal follows another short and wide delivery. This time, though, he seeks to close the face of the horizontal bat. The edge is taken, and a highish catch safely taken by Hafeez at first slip 168/8
72.2 Four for Junaid. A touch too ambitious from Chanaka, who looks to cut this away, fails to keep it down, and finds point. How much has that collision off the last ball of the last over hurt them? Shouldn't take away from Junaid Khan. He is ecstatic. He has bowled well, especially the wickets of Jayawardenes in one over, the second one through a lovely yorker 193/9
74.1 Well there's the five-for. Immediately he does the sajda. Well done Junaid. This is an accurate bouncer, Pradeep is late to sway out of this, can't get the gloves out of the way. Adnan completes the catch 197/10

38.3 very well bowled. I could see the breeze blowing across, from off to leg, and he uses it well. Bowls the arm ball, which drifts with the wind. Hafeez plays for the break away, but this goes on and beats the inside edge to hit him dead in front. Well played Hafeez for his 75 118/1
174.2 Asad Shafiq is a strange man. He is not hitting the shots, he doesn't want the quick singles, and the umpire and coach are waiting to declare. Taufeeq flicks, can't find the gap, wants a single to square leg, Asad is not moving. Taufeeq runs half way down, turns around, puts in a full-length dive, and still makes it only as far as the white line by the time the bails come off. Well done Asad on running Taufeeq out, on refusing a single when as the frsher, younger partner he should be initiating these quick single. and a non-sarcastic well done to Taufeeq Umar. Close to 12 hours in this heat, setting the innings up, seeing Pakistan through to a lead 511/5

104.1 Very well bowled, a real beauty to produce a wicket. The off stump has gone cartwheeling. Gets this full and to swing, pitched at the off-stump line, Azhar played for the angle, the ball snuck back in to hit the off stump. Welegedara is pumped. For the 10th time in his career Azhar has finished between 50 and 99 278/2
133.5 He is given. Not too sure about the decision. No swing on this, and for left-arm over you need to swing it to get the lbws. He has not bowled this from particularly close to the umpire, gets it to land on a length, middle-stump line, the ball angles across, Younis plays outside the line, is hit in front of off. A hint of straightening perhaps. Rod Tucker thinks it straightened enough 360/3
150.6 Misbah goes back with a wry smile on his face. This one pitches outside leg, turns a mile, Misbah is well forward, feeling for it. PJ goes up immediately in a huge shout, Tony Hill waits before raising his finger. Misbah doesn't look pleased. First replay didn't seem to support Hill. That's gone off the shot sleeve. No edge at all. A breezy 46 nonetheless. Not a Test for captains, both have been sawn off 436/4

0.1 Gul. He has struck first ball. Or is it Tony Hill who has struck? There is no swing on this ball, pitches leg, angled away, squares the batsman up, hits him on the back leg, in front of off, but there is no straightening of the line. This is angling across. Hill sends him on his way. Great start for Pakistan. Not so great for SL and Hill. On second replay, it actually nips away a touch. It actually started to swing, fooling the umpire, then pitched and seamed away 0/1
50.5 slower offcutter, and a suicidal second. What was Thirimanne thinking? He nudges this towards fine leg, Azhar Ali charges in from long leg, he has to throw from less than 40 yards but they take the arm on. Caught well short even though Akmal has to drag the ball towards the stumps 153/2
153.2 Azhar Ali goes on a celebratory run. He has produced the huge wicket of Sangakkara. The match lives on. Length-ball legbreak, pitches just outside off, Sanga is slightly slow in bringing his bat down, the ball turns and hits the pad in front of middle and off. Live time I thought there might have been an inside edge, but the replays aren't clear. However, it does seem that my live-time reaction was wrong, and Tucker might be right. Yes, the bat hit the toe, thus creating the noise. So he was dead plumb here. What a first Test wicket 434/6
53.3 this is an Ajmal special. Quick offbreak. Mahela does what Swann calls: pat a burning dog. He looks to cut the offspinner of a length. The ball turns sharply, squeezes through, takes the inside edge, and then onto the stumps 160/3
60.6 Timber. Junaid goes on a joy run. Through the gap. A bit of angle, a bit of nip in, with the shine. Short of driving length, outside off, Dilshan doesn;t move his feet, as is his wont, looks to drive, but it squeezes through the gap. Middle stump, bye bye 191/4
80.1 Two new balls. Two first-balls strikes for Gul. What a legend Gul is. For a moment I thought he had bowled him. This is a beauty. Just short of a length, outside off, Mathews stays back, the ball hits the seam and darts back in, hitting him deep in the crease, in front of off. The only question was height but umpire Hill obviously saw him deep inside the crease. This one would have taken the top of off. That's what the coaches tell you to do 233/5
161.4 The game lives on. Cheema strikes with the new ball. And what a beauty to get him. Jayawardene plays for the angle, the ball holds its line, hits the outside edge, and is taken by Akmal. Incidentally that's the first catch Pakistan have taken in more than 150 overs. He gets a big appluase, captain Dilshan walks to the edge of the boundary to greet him. Well played PJ, but there is still hope for Pakistan. 466/7

164.5 The match is still alive. It just refuses to die. Length ball, outside off, Welegedara pushes at it without feet, the edge is taken, and Akmal takes the second catch of the innings 477/8
166.6 Timber. Or no more timber, shall I say? The middle stump is out, the stump mic is gone. Yorker, hits the pad in front of middle and demolishes the stump. Will Pakistan go for a chase and make our day? They are former Twenty20 champions 481/9
167.6 Game on. He is run out. The ball is in Pakistan's court now. Confusion all around because Herath wants to retain strike, but he has hit it straight to midwicket, which he realises late and sends Nuwan Pradeep back. Despite a poor soft throw he is caught short 483/10
