England win by a massive 121 runs, wrapping up their sixth series win of a very successful summer. They were simply too strong for Pakistan today. Shoaib Akhtar was exemplary with the new ball once again, and England were in trouble before Morgan and Collingwood, and then Morgan and Bresnan, revived the innings. Morgan reached his second hundred in consecutive appearances at the Rose Bowl, and 257 was always going to be a stiff chase.

Hafeez and Kamran Akmal launched Pakistan's pursuit with gusto, but once their stand was broken England took the upper hand and never eased up. Swann did the expected by striking in his first over, and Pakistan's middle order crumbled as the pressure mounted. Despite the controversy that's accompanied it, the cricket in this series has been riveting and the players from both sides line up on the boundary to shake hands as England walk off victorious.

Shahid Afridi: "I want to congratulate the English team, these guys played really well. Despite all the controversies our guys improved day by day and game by game. Eoin Morgan and Graeme Swann played really well for England today. My boys really bowled well on this wicket, but the way Swann bowled, he really bowled well. The main positive thing I can take from this tour is the way we played and the way we were united. Winning and losing is one thing but it's important to stay united."

Eoin Morgan is Man of the Match: "It's a massive bonus to finish on a high here, it sums up our summer as a whole. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. With a lot of world class players in the side it's easy to gel with the team and express yourself." Do you expect to see your name in the Ashes squad? "No I don't expect anything. If it comes it comes."

Andrew Strauss is the Player of the Series: "I've tried to be a bit more aggressive and a bit more attacking and as captain you have to lead from the front in that regard." Six series wins this summer: "It's a pretty good effort, I think we've done really well. We've had to dig pretty deep at times, particularly in this series which is one of the hardest I've played in. But we stuck together. We can't wait [for the Ashes]. In some ways this summer prepared us as we had to deal with quite a lot, and we'll have to deal with a lot this winter."

A jubilant England side have the series trophy and plenty of champagne in their hands. They look delighted at the win and a touch relieved that this long summer - one of the longest international summers on record - has come to an end. They'll have a break now before their pre-Ashes bootcamp. That series will be England's whole focus now and they'll be a battle-hardened unit after this testing home season.

Andrew Miller's final bulletin of the summer is ready for your perusal, and Miller's match musings are always worth a read. We've also got a rather fabulous match gallery for you to look at in joy or sorrow, depending on your leanings. And that's just about all from your commentary team at Cricinfo Towers. It's been a great summer and we hope you've enjoyed our coverage. From me, Liam Brickhill, Andrew McGlashan and Andrew Miller at the ground it's goodbye until next time.
