the umpires are coming together to have a chat. Has the light got bad enough for them to make an offer to the batsmen?

And there you go. The light has been offered and Pakistan's batsmen gleefully accept and walk off.

On paper there is a chance that the players could come back out to the middle if the light improves. But practically speaking there's little chance of the light improving now.

4.24pm (IST) For the moment bad light has stopped play. The Indian team is staying out in the middle, but the Pakistani batsman have headed back into the dressing-room.

The floodlights cannot be used in these conditions. In order to use artificial lights in Test matchs a Memorandum of Understanding has to be signed between the two boards agreeing to amend the playing conditions to allow the use of lights. But, with Delhi not having lights, the two boards, for the sake of consistency through the series, did not agree to use the floodlights.

Amazingly someone has turned on the lights at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Now we'll have to wait till the lights go off and then take another reading to see if the light has improved at all.

The umpires explain that the benchmark for light is the reading of about 4.7 on the light meter. The reading is now around 3.4, explains Rudi Koertzen. It has to improve over 4.7 for play to resume.

4.50pm And there you go. The game has been offically called off and the match is drawn. India have won the series 1-0 and they will take that, although they came close to making it 2-0. This was Anil Kumble's first series as captain and he emerges victorious. India have not beaten Pakistan at home for 27 years and this win will mean a lot to the team as they head out for a tough tour of Australia soon.

Stay with us and we'll bring you the presentation ceremony when it happens. Shouldn't be too long now ...

The match officials come on to receive their medallions for the series. First the on-field umpires, then the third umpire, the reserve umpire and finally the match referee.

The Indian players and their coaching and support staff come up to recieve their medallions.

The Man of the Match award goes Sourav Ganguly for his magnificent double-hundred and second-innings 91. And he's also the player of the series.

"Good series for me and the team. Hope it continues," says Ganguly. "No major adjustments in technique. Most of the adjustments are in the mind. Slightly disappointed to not score the hundred but it was good to make runs on this pitch when it was needed."

"We had some fitness problems with the bowling. But there were some positives in the batting form of Misbah-ul-Haq," says Younis Khan. "Great debut for Yasir Arafat as well. You learn a lot in India-Pakistan matches. This series should help us in the future."

"Feels great to win a Test series against Pakistan. To have achieved that at my hometown in Bangalore was special," says Anil Kumble. "I never expected the captaincy to come my way at 37 but I expected the result in this series. Brilliant batting by Sourav and Yuvraj in the first innings. Ishant picked up five in the first innings. I'd given up bowling seam-up 25 years ago and didn't think I'd have to resort to it again, in my hometown, but the pitch warranted it. We have the batsmen to go out there and get the runs against Australia. If we put runs on the board then our bowlers can go out and do the job."

That's all we have from you for the moment. This is Anand Vasu, your commentator signing off. We do hope you enjoyed following this game on Cricinfo as much as enjoyed bringing it to you. Cheers.
