4.55pm Right then, it's officially stumps. That will be all from us today. Join us tomorrow morning for the second day. Play is scheduled to begin at 9.30am local. On behalf of Hemant and Sudeep, this is Abhimanyu signing off. Bye!
Zubair: "Interesting to see only 1, 4 and 3s currently on the scoreboard. "
4.47pm And the players are going off for bad light. Rizwan and Shakeel, with resilient half-centuries of differing natures, see their stand unbroken on 97. Only 41.3 overs have been possible today so far, and I doubt we will see the players return for more. There was fog that delayed the toss till after lunch and play only started at 1.30pm. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat but Jayden Seales almost made them regret it with a brilliant opening burst that saw him take three top and middle-order wickets with some seam movement on offer. But after he had Babar Azam nicking off, it was all about the Pakistan rebuild. Seales' opening spell saw him bowl nine overs. But after that the spinners kept threatening, but Shakeel and Rizwan were resolute. The match is poised interestingly already.
Jayden Seales: "It's about backing the skills and preparation we had in Islamabad and just knowing if we get the ball in the right areas we could get lucky. From me it's all about being able to hit that length as much as possible to draw the batsman forward and draw false shots and bowl as few bad balls as possible. I have been trying to develop my other balls and strengthen my stock ball. [On his County stint] It allowed me to express myself a lot more, understand the conditions and understand myself as a player and a bowler. [What do West Indies need to do?] We just need to continue bowling good balls on this pitch. There is something in it for spinners and fast bowlers. Keeping them to probably 250 will be good on this pitch."
The umpires bring out the light-o-meter. Fast bowlers can't bowl anymore, so Kraigg Brathwaite takes the ball now. Can he break this partnership with his part-time offspin? From around the wicket. Three close fielders on the leg side
Ansar : "@Sohaib: But the question is whether he can ball effectively with older ball especially when there is reverse swing?"

Sohaib: "Abbas would have been better option on this track in place of Khurram Shazad. What would you say?" I definitely think he'd have enjoyed bowling here. There's a silly mid-on in place now
Hussain: "Shakeel's batting like he's on a Sunday stroll, while Rizwan defends like it's the end of the world! The spinners are trying, but Carty's saving boundaries like he's in a circus. Drama everywhere!"
Ian Bishop on air notes how Seales has now started to shift the ball late into his bowling hand while in his run-up, while at the start of the game he had it in his right hand at the top of his mark. Indicates that he is likely doing that to hide the shine of the ball in case there is some reverse sweep
Shahid Majeed: "What could be a good first inning score on this wicket?" Hmm, anything above 275 could be good!
Well, Kevin asked for him and here he is. Jayden Seales, looking to add to his three wickets in the first session. Wide slip in place

Kevin: "Why Seales not bowling after tea ??" He bowled a nine-over spell in the first session today. Plus there's enough in the pitch for the spinners

Walt: "Shakeel seems to be such a calm player, he almost never looks truly flustered!". He's one away from a fifty. Long-on comes up
