So India go 1-0 up in the three-match series in a dominant way. That's all from our side for tonight. See you on Tuesday for the next game.
Shikhar Dhawan: All our boys are very mature as well as aggressive. They way they played today was tremendous and I am very happy. The way our spinners bowled, they brought us back, all three spinners, Chahal, Kuldeep and Krunal. It was good to be on the other end and watch Prithvi and Ishan. I was telling them to take it easy actually. The way these young boys play in the IPL, they get lots of exposure and they just finished the game in the first 15 overs only. I thought about my hundred but there were not many runs left. (laughs). When Surya came out to bat, I thought I need to improve my skills (laughs).
Dasun Shanaka: We started well but the ball was hanging a bit, they bowled well. I am happy to take the responsibility of the captaincy. The Indians batted aggressively. We needed to vary the pace as the ball was coming on to the bat nicely. In the next game, we will have to improve on that."
And it's Prithvi Shaw. "It's fine now, a bit of pain but it's okay," he says about the blow to the head. "Rahul sir didn't say anything when I went in. I went with my instinct and was looking for boundaries. As a batsman, I try to keep the scoreboard ticking. The pitch was good in the first innings and it got better in the second innings. And I like facing fast bowlers. I was disappointed with the shot when I got out. I lost a bit of focus after I was hit on the head."
Time for the presentation ceremony. Who is your Player of the Match?
10.10pm A cakewalk it proved to be in the end as India wrap up the game with 13.2 overs to spare. After Chamika Karunaratne's cameo lifted Sri Lanka to 262 for 9, it looked like India might have to work hard for the win. The pitch seemed to be on the slower side with the ball gripping and turning but Prithvi Shaw's 24-ball 43 made that total look paltry. Birthday boy Ishan Kishan continued in the similar vein and went on to score a fifty on ODI debut. The other Indian debutant, Suyrakumar Yadav, finished it off with an unbeaten 20-ball 31. All this while, Shikhar Dhawan played the anchor's role and finished unbeaten on 86 off 95 balls. He also brought up 6000 ODI runs during the course of his innings.
