END OF OVER:1 | GG: 8/0
Dan Lawrence, Player of the Match: (On if he decided to attack from the first ball) No, not really. It was a bit of panic stations. Dawson bowled a couple of good overs. Then thought I have to go, and fortunately it came off. I did not feel calm at the start. We needed 12.5 an over on a slow surface. One of those pitches, once you got in, it was nice to bat on. We have played a lot of games and good that we are on a winning run.
Sam Curran, Desert Vipers captain: (On Vipers leaving things late) Has been the trend recently, but not complaining - three from three (smiles). Both games, needing 30 off 12 and somehow, done it. The way they bowled in the powerplay, they bowled really well. Couple of nice partnerships through the middle. Couple of nice hits (in the Super Over) by Dan. (On Tanveer) He is working really hard on his batting in the nets. To hit six off one and to bowl really well, really good signs. Still think we can do fractionally better with the bat. Early wickets, has been tough to rebuild (from that).
Moeen Ali, Gulf Giants captain: (On if they had it in the bag) Just made a couple of mistakes at the wrong time and allowed them to get back in the game. Just when we needed a couple of good balls, gave them (one to hit). Game is never over until it is over. There is so much good hitting now. Never safe with one side smaller than the other. Great game of cricket and one of those we could have easily won.
10:51pm Phew. Some game, wasn't it? It seemed the Giants had it under control but a salvo at the death salvaged a tie for the Vipers. Hetmyer and Lawrence then ransacked 13 off the Super Over and the Giants, hamstrung (literally perhaps) by Nissanka's absence, just could not muster the requisite firepower to chase that down.
Given how far ahead they seemed at one stage, the Giants will feel they have let one slip. The Vipers were not perfect today but like in each game previously this season, they found a way to get past the finish line. And they now end this evening at the top of the table and as the only side to boast an unbeaten record this season.
7 needed off 2 now. Moores, eyeing a redemption arc, on strike
10:38pm And the Giants batters finally make their way out. With a surprise too. Moeen and Moores will be opening the batting. Omarzai was stood on the stairs with his full gear on, which indicates that Nissanka might not be batting. Is he battling an injury? Also, there is still some confusion and plenty of chatting between the umpires and Curran. Might have been something to do with which end the Vipers need to bowl from. Naseem was stood at the other end and has now been called over to the right end. All happening...
END OF OVER:1 | DV: 13/1
10:34pm A pretty handy score to have for the Vipers. But they will have to bowl well. Early signs are that Naseem might be trusted with that responsibility. The Giants do have a lot of firepower and Nissanka, in particular, has been in splendid touch.
And we have another little delay now. This Super Over has taken a LONG time to materialize. Not sure that should ideally be the case. Vince is now chatting to the fourth umpire. Vince, remember, is not a part of this game anymore having been substituted.
DW Lawrence c Dawson b Thushara
10:25pm Right. We are finally getiing underway after what seems like an eternity. Thushara to bowl the Super Over. Hetmyer is one of the batters, and Lawrence, unsurprisingly, is the other.
END OF OVER:20 | DV: 179/9 (1 run required, RR: 8.95)
10:21pm Hetmyer and Lawrence are indulging in some stretching, and they could be two of the three Vipers batters that might feature. James Foster, the Vipers head coach, is engaged in some discussion with the umpires. Not sure what that is about, but it is delaying proceedings a touch. And those chats are still ongoing. We really should have gotten cracking by now.
10:17pm Wow. What a game. And we are still not done yet. This game had everything. The Vipers were rocked early and were drifting out of the game until Lawrence and Curran got together. The former did the bulk of the heavy lifting but perished before the end, meaning the rest then had to set up with cameos, and that they did.
The Giants will look back at the five wides they conceded in the penultimate over as a possible turning point. Prior to that, they had held their nerve, with Omarzai the pick of the bowlers. But those extra runs conceded at the end means that they now have to navigate through a Super Over to ensure that their record remains spotless.
Naseem Shah run out 2 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 66.66
3 off 1. Super Over seems like the likeliest outcome at this stage
4 off 2. Super Over, anyone?
Right. What do you have up your sleeve here, Vriitya Aravind? 7 off 4
Khuzaima Tanveer c Rahmanullah Gurbaz b Azmatullah Omarzai 7 (3b 0x4 1x6) SR: 233.33
7 off 5 and this is the Vipers' game to lose now
Over 40 of 40. 13 off 6. Tanveer can find the fence. Do the Giants have enough still to play with? Omarzai to bowl
