4.58pm That's stumps on day two in Mumbai. As it stands, NZ are effectively 143 for 9 on a surface that is playing all sorts of tricks. India's old firm of Ashwin and Jadeja triggered a NZ collapse and turned it India's way. They shared seven wickets between them, with Ashwin, in particular, bowling some vicious carrom balls in the final session.
Here's Ashwin speaking to Dinesh Karthik: For all the flak you've given me overs the years, I don't think I've dropped many. I wanted to get as close to the ball as possible. I have got great hands and I trusted my hands to go through with it [on the Mitchell catch]. I think firstly the game itself was divided into two halves. The one from pavilion end and the dressing room end. One end - the dressing room end - was slightly flatter and bounce was much lesser. So, I thought of using it the other way. The batters were also knowing it was easier to take me on from this side. So, I wanted to give something different [carrom ball]. Hopefully not many [on the target]. Any runs saved in this innings is critical for us when we chase it down. It's not going to be easy and we have to bat well to chase the score. I expected a lot more bounce and speed from this Mumbai pitch but it has been quite slow, which is a surprise for me. Not a typical Bombay pitch; it was much slower than usual.
After the ten-minute nightmare at the end of the first day, India have revived themselves on the second. They now have a shot at avoiding a whitewash tomorrow and finish with a more respectable 1-2. Until then, this is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Sid Monga and K Vairavan. Take care and cheers.
Is Rishabh Pant's match-winning 89* at the Gabba a shoo-in for the semi-finals? He's up against VVS Laxman's 167 in our fan polls to determine India's greatest Border-Gavaskar Trophy performance in Australia. Vote here.
Arindam: "Methinks it's going to be difficult scoring 150 on a 3rd day of this Wankhede pitch- Indians would have to bat out of their skins. But it is going to be an interesting and entertaining final day of the series "
Divy: "Love how NZ have dealt in sixes throughout this innings. India will need Pant, Rohit, Jaiswal, and Sundar to do the same if they have to stand a chance on this tricky surface. Great fight from the Kiwis!"
Arbab Anjum: "the day started with NZ 149 ahead ...ends with NZ 143 ahead .. funny "
