Hurricanes control their own destiny now for the final playoff berth. A win over the last place Melbourne Renegades and they claim the fifth and final playoff spot. A loss by the Hurricanes opens the door for the Melbourne Stars. They'll need to upset the Sydney Sixers, who have already clinched a playoff berth and do so with a bonus point as well to join Adelaide Strikers on 28 points but the Stars currently have a superior net run rate tiebreak advantage. If the Hurricanes lose and the Stars can't claim a bonus point regardless of the full match result, the Adelaide Strikers will backdoor their way into the final playoff spot. Head over for match commentary on the Hurricanes v Renegades match which is now underway with the Renegades batting first. That's it from Adelaide. I'm Peter Della Penna. Take care!

Man of the Match Marnus Labuschagne: "Our season has come down to the last game the last few years and we've made a meal of it. But Benny Laughlin got us through today with hitting that wide yorker. We rolled the dice in the Power Surge and I don't know if the skipper will go to me again after that. Just with our fielding and saving crucial runs in the ring, Lynny got us off to a good start too so there's a lot of good things to take and momentum to take us to Brisbane."

3.17 pm For 35 overs, it looked like the Heat were going to do it the easy way. And then for the last five overs they opted to do it the hard way. So now only one playoff spot left. The Strikers are now dependent on the Renegades and Sixers to beat the Hurricanes and Stars respectively if they're to claim that final playoff berth.

Laughlin to Marsh, no run, knee high full toss very wide outside off, it was there for Marsh to slam for another six on the height but yet again he flubs this into the ground. It skittles along the turf to deep midwicket and they don't bother running a single. The Heat hold on for dear life to win by six runs and clinch a playoff berth!

Six needed to force a super over now. Labuschagne comes off the rope for a chat with Laughlin and Lynn to discuss what to bowl.

Kapil Baldawa: "Poor Barlett, keeps getting dropped and Steketee keeps giving runs and keeps his place in the XI." For being the team's leading wicket-taker, Steketee has been absolutely dreadful at the death today with the season on the line. Heat looked like they had this safely in the bag 20 minutes ago. Now they're sweating bullets. Scorchers need 17 off 6 having needed 81 off 30.

Steketee to Marsh, 2 runs, dropped at deep square leg by Bryant! Full on the legs, chips this high toward the rope and Bryant covers 20 yards to his right before diving, came to him at a catchable height at around knee height and got two hands around it but it clangs out when his elbows hit the turf on the landing. To make matters worse Marsh comes back for the second to keep strike. 7/10 on difficulty. Had to be taken in the circumstances of the chase.

This game looked safely in the bag at the start of the Power Surge with 81 needed off 30. But Marsh is red hot and 34 off two overs suddenly seems doable.

Steketee to Marsh, OUT, superb work from Steketee off his own bowling. yorker on middle, jams this out and it settles just in front of the striker. Big hesitation to go for the run or not and they finally set off but Steketee has a big head start in the footrace to the striker's stumps with Hardie. He slides baseball style to scoop and flick into the stumps from a foot away to beat Hardie's dive. He didn't even need to let the ball go. Would've got him out by sliding to the stumps and dislodging the bails with the ball in his hand.

AM Hardie run out 11 (6b 0x4 1x6) SR: 183.33
