The six-hitting spree continues this IPL. Jacks jams ten of them in an unbeaten century, when all the talk with RCB requiring the remaining 58 was about Kohli's potential hundred. But 29 runs each were plundered off two overs - there were three fours and seven sixes, all of Jacks' bat - as RCB won their second game in a row after a disappointing start to the season. But IPL action for this evening doesn't end here, as we shift to Chennai for CSK's game against SRH. Keep following for more pounding! Goodbye from Ahmedabad!

Will Jacks is the Player of the Match: "Amazing feeling right now. I struggled early on, but Virat kept his intensity. I just kept going. It was trying to be positive. Once I got Mohit Sharma away, I relaxed. It's amazing [to bat with Kohli]. To spend some time [with him] in the middle is a huge feeling. It just gave me some confidence to hit my first six. Needed to more adaptable at the beginning. Just lucky today - 17 off 17 don't win you many games!"

Faf du Plessis: "It was a really good wicket. When we bowled first, we certainly felt it was a score we could have gone after. We are making progress across departments. It feels like the confidence is starting to come... The bowlers took some great confidence [from the match against KKR]. We are doing the basics a lot better now."

Virat Kohli: "Phenomenal! When Jacks came in to bat, he couldn't strike the ball like he wanted to. But we know how explosive he can be. But he went after Mohit, and my role changed. I was just happy to be at the other end. Towards the end of their innings, the wicket started settling a bit. The wicket settles down, and the ball comes on nicely. We never dropped below ten an over through the innings. All people who talk about strike rates and me not playing spin well talk about these things [numbers]. It's just about doing my job... it's kind of muscle memory for me now. We can't carry on like we did in the first half. We are attacking the game way more. That's the way we want to play our cricket. And it's not been up to the standard except in the last two games... It's about us as cricketers having some self-respect."

Vikram: "14.2, Jacks 50. 15.5, Jacks 100*... Just unbelievable"

Shubman Gill: "It was great hitting by them. But having said that, we need to come up with better plans. At the end of the day what matters is how much you've got after 20 overs. We thought it was enough for us to have a good match. We were not able to pick up wickets in the middle overs, which is one of our strengths."

Rakesh: "We were waiting on Kohli's hundred, and Jacks came out of the syllabus."

Afeef: "Jacks in his first 17 balls scored just 17 runs. Then he scored 83 runs off his next 24 balls! Amazing hitting."

6.50pm So RCB somehow remain afloat. But it will be all about Jacks tonight. He was on 31 off 24 balls at one stage; he ended with 100* from 41 in a superb effort to completely blow GT away! Out of his last 17 balls, there were four fours and nine sixes crashed across the ground. As a result, RCB end up hunting down 201 with four overs and nine wickets to spare. That's a massive boost to their NRR, but they remain tenth for now.

Rashid Khan to Jacks, SIX, hundred for Jacks! This is ridiculous hitting, and Kohli's expression at the other end says it all. Jacks get there off just 41 balls, including smashing ten sixes. Out came the across-the-line heave off this full delivery, and the ball flew somewhere between the deep-square or deep-midwicket region

Jacks on 94, and RCB need one

15.5
6
Rashid Khan to Jacks, SIX, more fun for Jacks! He is on 94 now, one hit away from a hundred. Full again from Rashid, but this one turns away from middle, and is drilled over fine leg
15.4
4
Rashid Khan to Jacks, FOUR, bashed to deep square! Fuller length, and the googly ending on leg, as Jacks had a swing, but the ball came off the inside half of the bat
15.3
6
Rashid Khan to Jacks, SIX, again goes over deep square! My fingers are paining, but my job role doesn't allow you to assume how this ball went. Rashid bowled short for the third ball in a row, and Jacks pulled again for six more
15.2
6
Rashid Khan to Jacks, SIX, dumped over deep square leg! Rashid bowls short again, and Jacks clears his front leg to pull that hard and high for another six
15.1
1
Rashid Khan to Kohli, 1 run, bowls short on the stumps, and Kohli pulls to deep square to bring up 500 runs for the season

Rashid returns

END OF OVER:

Sharma to Jacks, no run, a yorker which is wide of off. Jacks throws his bat at it, and the ball rolls through to short third for a dot ball after all that mauling

29 off the over already...

14.5
4
Sharma to Jacks, FOUR, just wide of long-on! We'll surely be going home very early today. And this is six too, with the ball dropping on the rope! Length ball from Mohit, and again a slower ball, as Jacks hoicks across the line
14.4
6
Sharma to Jacks, SIX, pumped down the ground! Mohit, predictably, bowls at a change of pace again, but Jacks blows it away. The ball is full and just outside off, with Jacks' front leg out of the way in ramming it into the sightcreen

Naman: "It looks like every Team has cracked Mohit Sharma now. They know he's going to bowl 3-4 slower balls every over."

14.3
2
Sharma to Jacks, 2 runs, slower ball again, and quite full and wide of off. Jacks slices and it goes very high up, but lands wide of long-off

Sharma to Jacks, (no ball) SIX, a high full toss, and six more! This could be called an above-waist no-ball too, as the umpire deliberates. This was angled in, and finished just above his waist outside leg. Swung over short fine leg. In fact, it is called no-ball
14.2
6
Sharma to Jacks, SIX, just over deep midwicket's head! This is Jacks' fifty too. Another length ball from Mohit, as he went from the back of the hand, and just outside off. Crashed over the rope by Jacks

Prem: " @Mustafa Moudi, Never leave runs to get for others. If you are scoring, finish the game. Ask Tendulkar fans from the 1990s and 2000s"

14.1
4
Sharma to Jacks, FOUR, reads the slower ball, and bam! Swiped to deep square, as the ball is on the shorter side of a length on the stumps. But Jacks is ready, and attacks across the line

Mohit back

END OF OVER:

Noor Ahmad to Jacks, 1 run, full and angled into leg, as Jacks looked to sweep but got a bottom edge to the right of short fine

From around now

13.5
6
Noor Ahmad to Jacks, SIX, crunched over deep square! This time Jacks nails the sweep, as he reads this length ball on the stumps, and rams it over the boundary
13.4
4b
Noor Ahmad to Jacks, 4 byes, ahh, four byes for RCB to raise the hundred stand. Fullish length just outside leg, and no turn there. Jacks went sweeping but missed, and so did Saha
13.3
0
Noor Ahmad to Jacks, no run, on a length around off, and moving away to finish wide of off, as Jacks looked to swat but missed
13.2
1
Noor Ahmad to Kohli, 1 run, ahh, a lot slower, and on a length outside leg. Nudged towards deep square as he plays late
13.1
2
Noor Ahmad to Kohli, 2 runs, swatted over extra cover, as this short ball turns away to finish outside off

Only another 67 needed, with 42 balls and nine wickets in the back. Kohli on 66 already. So this is RCB's game to lose.

END OF OVER:
13 | 11 Runs | RCB: 134/1 (67 runs required from 42 balls, RR: 10.30, RRR: 9.57)

  • Will Jacks37 (25b)
  • Virat Kohli66 (41b)
  • Sai Kishore3-0-30-1

Hari: "Are RCB peaking at the right time or wrong time?" --- The most difficult question to answer at this time

Time-out

12.6
6
Sai Kishore to Jacks, SIX, belted over wide long-on! This over had gone for only five singles, but Jacks makes up for it in the end. Short ball from Sai on middle and leg, and pulled hard for a big six
12.5
1
Sai Kishore to Kohli, 1 run, this turns away a bit from a fullish length on off, and is hacked wide of long-off
12.4
1
Sai Kishore to Jacks, 1 run, swats this short ball outside off to long-off
12.3
1
Sai Kishore to Kohli, 1 run, tossed up, and slower and fuller on off. Nudged aerially to long-off
12.2
1
Sai Kishore to Jacks, 1 run, on a length on the stumps, and quicker. Punched to long-off

"Dear Kohli, Please leave a few runs for Maxwell to score as well. He has been waiting for long to bat again!!" --- There are still another 77 to get, Mustafa Moudi

12.1
1
Sai Kishore to Kohli, 1 run, short of a length on off, and swept off the bottom of the bat to deep square. Tewatia dives to his right at square leg, but is beaten

Sai replaces Mohit
