4.5 gone this time! Broad strikes and England really needed that. Short and Akmal tried to hook it, it climbed too much for him, got a top edge and looped gently behind the stumps to Kieswetter, who held on to a much easier chance 31/1
9.2 gone! Well, that's almost come out of nowhere. Butt danced down the track and lashes it skimming to cover, where Collingwood nonchalantly takes the catch. Crucial breakthrough for England 71/2
10.3 Yardy strikes! Not the smartest of shots that from Hafeez, he walked down the wicket, Yardy saw him coming and slipped it in quicker, Hafeez slashes it to short third man who holds on 77/3
16.4 what a catch from Pietersen! Brilliant stuff, dug in short from Sidebottom, Akmal smashed it miles in the air down to deep midwicket, Pietersen running back and around from a straightish midwicket, stuck his hands out and snaffled an excellent take 118/6
10.4 Oh no, suicide from Afridi! Pakistan are always moments away from episodes like this. Afridi pushes the ball straight to cover and sets off for a single that never existed, Akmal sends him back, Afridi stands there, and it's all over. Absolute madness and a crucial wicket for England. 77/4
14.6 very smart from Yardy and slightly suicidal from Misbah, he got into a reverse sweep position almost while Yardy was still running up, it left him a sitting duck for a quicker full ball which Yardy duly fired it and bowled him 102/5
18.6 gone! Razzaq can't repeat the dose, another pretty gentle full toss, perhaps a bit lower this time, Razzaq tries to smash it away but gets it off the bottom of the bat and it loops out gently to long off, who gleefully takes it 132/8
17.2 gone this time, pretty similar to the last ball and Alam tried to cut, but it was too close to him, ended up edging tamely behind 120/7
19.1 well, Aamer has looked uncomfortable all innings, and this time he's gone, dug in at the body from Bresnan, Aamer skipped leg side to give himself room for a cut, it was too close to him and he ends up sending it looping to point, where Swann and Yardy almost collide taking the catch 132/9

5.4 Gone! Stumped! Ajmal begins to make amends for his poor fielding with a great piece of bowling. Again he tossed the ball up bravely, Lumb took a couple of steps down the track looking for the leg-side heave but was beaten in the flight, and Kamran completed a smart stumping 44/1
8.1 gone! Safe hands from Umar as Kieswetter came down the track and hit this ball up into the stratosphere. Umar circled underneath it at long on for what seemed like an age, and managed to cling on the the steepling chance. Thank goodness it wasn't Ajmal down there! 65/2

15.6 Gone! Afridi strikes with his last ball as Collingwood tries to repeat Pietersen's stroke from earlier in the over but can only send the ball as far as the long on fielder, who holds on to the chance. Will there be a final twist to this match? 125/3
17.6 gone! Arm ball from Ajmal, and Morgan didn't pick it! He went back to what he believed to be a short ball, but it came on quickly with the arm to beat his attempted pull and rattle the timber! A sting in the tail? Probably not, with England only needing 8 from 12, but you never know! 140/4

Match Notes

  • England begin to gel as a Twenty20 unit

It's difficult to know quite how good England were in the opening Super Eight game because Pakistan were so poor, but there is no doubt they are a vastly improving Twenty20 team

  • Pietersen praises England power-hitters

Kevin Pietersen could be leaving this tournament at any moment should his wife go into labour, and in the form he showed against Pakistan it will be a considerable hole to fill if he is absent

  • Pietersen seals England victory

Kevin Pietersen returned to form with a confident 52-ball 70 not out, as England's powerful new batting line-up capitalised on a spirited display from their bowlers to ease along to a comfortable six-wicket victory
