8.15pm: The umpires are out there having a look, no umbrellas up. It looks blustery. There's some movement from the groundstaff too...
8.10pm: Hold on. We've just had news through that there will be another inspection at 8.15pm local time. England's players look pretty glum on the balcony. It seems like it'll be tough for this to restart in time for a 20-over run chase... but we'll wait and see.
8.00pm: Another bolt of lightning in the middle-distance, by the sounds of things, which means at least another half-hour before anything will happen... this feels doomed!
7.52pm: The BBC report that the umpires are on their way out to have a look at the outfield. Remember, we have to start in just over an hour's time, otherwise this will be a no-result.
7.45pm: There's plenty of standing water on the covers, and it looks pretty bleak out there... nobody mopping up just yet which suggests there is still some weather around, though it does appear to have stopped raining for the time being.
7.30pm: The lights are now back on, although they are only slowly grinding back towards full-beam.
7.26pm: We've just had some more pictures from Potchefstroom and it is starting to look like this game might be in trouble. Thick dark clouds rolling through, with the floodlights off - unclear if that is purposeful or not - and the rain is coming down.
The latest possible restart time is 8.56pm local time. So it will have to start getting better pretty soon if we are going to get an outright result from this series.
7.03pm: We are now officially losing overs, as of one minute ago per the ECB. The delayed restart is officially because of 'lightning and rain' now, rather than just lightning.
7.00pm: It's now looking very dark, with a handful of groundstaff wandering over the covers. No news as yet as to when we start losing overs, but this delay has lasted at least an hour now and it doesn't look like they'll be restarting anytime soon.
6.45pm: Latest visuals from the ground are of a striking golden-hour sunset... but those covers are still firmly on.
6.30pm: Full covers on the ground now as the dark cloud rolls in. Doesn't look promising..!
lunch: "Pretty classic highveld weather in SA by the seems of it. Hopefully the thunderstorm will blow over pretty soon as they often do at this time of year"
6.15pm: Frustrating delay with no rain falling at the venue as things stand... but safety first with lightning in the surrounding area.
Welcome back for the chase. There's some weather around the Potchefstroom area... and because there has been lightning in the vicinity, the players are staying off the field for the time being.

5.31pm: England need 234 in 50 overs to seal the series and will be confident of chasing that under lights, especially at what is typically a pretty good batting venue. South Africa started well through Laura Wolvaardt, and England lost Kate Cross to a back spasm in the very first over. But they chipped away at the middle order, with Sophie Ecclestone characeristically frugal, and it took a ninth-wicket stand of 32 to drag them up to 233 for 8. Join us for the chase in half an hour.
END OF OVER:49 | 2 Runs | SA-W: 227/8 | RR: 4.63
- Mieke de Ridder13 (34b)
- Nonkululeko Mlaba16 (19b)
- Nat Sciver-Brunt10-1-40-0
- Lauren Bell9-1-40-1
Sciver-Brunt finishes with 0 for 40. Not a spell that will be remembered beyond today but she has filled in very well as a frontline seamer after Cross hobbled off with a back spasm.
