The spell which James Faulkner produced in the Final of World Cup 2015 helped Australia claim the title, as they thrashed New Zealand by seven wickets at the MCG on Sunday.

James Faulkner came in to the attack in the 17th over of the match, with New Zealand struggling in 51 for three. He conceded just two boundaries from the first five overs he bowled.

New Zealand's Grant Elliott and Ross Taylor added 111 for the fourth wicket and helped their side recover from a slow start. However, Faulkner brought Australia back into the contest by dismissing Taylor and Corey Anderson in the 36th over.

The double-blow proved too costly for New Zealand and they failed to recover thereafter. Faulkner then dismissed the top-scorer Elliott in the 42nd over and his departure ensured that New Zealand managed just 183 in 45 overs.
